MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Vice President Kamala Harris called GOP Ohio Sen JD Vance on Monday, July 15, leaving him a congratulatory voicemail after the Republican vice presidential pick didn’t answer the phone call, a Biden-Harris campaign official confirmed.

According to the New York Post, Harris, 59, made the call following former President Donald Trump's announcement on Truth Social that Vance, 39, would be his running mate.

In her voicemail, Harris congratulated Vance and said that “she hoped to see [Vance] at the CBS News debate,” the campaign official confirmed.

Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his VP pick

The Joe Biden campaign has agreed to a vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News, although the Donald Trump camp is advocating for a debate on Fox News instead. The discussion over the debate format has been at a standstill since May when the two 2024 campaigns first outlined their terms for the face-off.

During their convention in Milwaukee, Republican National Committee delegates unanimously selected Vance as the GOP’s official vice presidential candidate. Harris "welcomed him to the race" and congratulated him on his selection, CNN reported. Should Trump and Vance be elected, the latter would become the second youngest vice president in American history.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump penned on Truth Social.

“JD honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association. JD’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy', became a major best seller and movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country,” the former president said.

“JD has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond…”

"I'm sure the voicemail was just her cackling," another added.
