WASHINGTON, DC: Barbara Boxer, former California Senator, has suggested that President Joe Biden should be given two weeks to demonstrate his capability to serve as president amid rising concerns about his candidacy in the 2024 race.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times columnist Mark Barabak published on Wednesday, July 3, Boxer said the president deserves the opportunity to show that his weak debate performance was an anomaly.

Speaking about Biden's capability as president, Boxer said, “The man has done it, time and time again."

“Every time he’s been counted out, he’s come back. Can he do it one more time? I don’t know the answer. But out of respect and admiration for what he’s done, let’s give him the time to do it," she continued.

“And if he can’t, he can’t. And there will be someone else," Boxer added.

Boxer, who was mentored by Biden during their time together in the Senate, was shocked by his debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27.

Speaking to Barabak, Boxer said, “We don’t know what happened with Joe.” She speculated that Biden’s lifelong stutter may have “kicked in under the studio lights” or that he was feeling the effects from his cold medicine.

“I think the president owes the country an explanation," said Boxer who empasized the need to prove that Biden is capable.

“He needs to be out without a script. Without a teleprompter and just face the press, face the public. That’s critical," she added.

Boxer's comments come amid growing concerns among voters and Democrats over his capability to run in the 2024 race following his shaky debate performance as some members of the Democratic Party have called on the president to step aside.

According to the White House, Biden is fully capable of serving another term and has downplayed the debate as a weak performance, according to The Hill.

Internet mocks Barbara Boxer as she asks two weeks for Joe Biden to prove himself

Reacting to Boxer's suggestion that Biden should be given two weeks to prove himself, one user on X (formerly Twitter), "He should have a minimum of 2 months to prove himself. Anything less is a threat to democracy!"

"Uncle Joe has already had 3 years and has proven he’s a complete failure!" a user tweeted while another user wrote, "He’s had 3.5 years. He had his chance already. And he failed miserably."

"What kind of s**t is this?!" a netizen commented while another user tweeted, "Surprised she didn’t say four years."
