WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden has firmly rejected suggestions from Democratic lawmakers that he withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

The 81-year-old politician stated that leaving the race would undermine voters' preferences and disregard his accomplishments, according to The Hill.

Joe Biden calls for unity in letter to congressional Democrats

On Monday, July 8, Biden addressed the turmoil within the Democratic Party following his shaky debate performance on June 27.

In a letter to congressional Democrats, he urged lawmakers to unite behind his candidacy.

“The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end,” wrote Biden.

“Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together," he added.

Growing doubts about Joe Biden among Democrats

In recent days, an increasing number of Democrats have voiced concerns about Biden's viability as the party's nominee in 2024, questioning his ability to campaign effectively and defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November election.

“I have heard the concerns that people have — their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them,” Biden wrote to lawmakers.

“I can respond to all this by saying clearly and unequivocally: I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024,” he added.

The president highlighted that millions of voters had supported him in the Democratic primaries and he questioned whether urging him to quit the race would disregard the democratic process.

“I decline to do that. I feel a deep obligation to the faith and the trust the voters of the Democratic Party have placed in me to run this year," Biden wrote.

"It was their decision to make. Not the press, not the pundits, not the big donors, not any selected group of individuals, no matter how well intentioned," he continued.

“The voters — and the voters alone — decide the nominee of the Democratic Party. How can we stand for democracy in our nation if we ignore it in our own party? I cannot do that. I will not do that," the president added.

Internet mocks Joe Biden for rejecting calls to quit the 2024 race

Reacting to Biden continuing to assert he will not leave the 2024 race despite widespread criticism, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "His ego is too big, also Jill Biden's as well."

One user wrote, "Selfish" while another user tweeted, "He's good at rejecting advice."

"I hope Blue MAGA is paying attention this time. You have no one to blame but yourselves when Joe Biden inevitably loses," a netizen commented.
