WASHINGTON, DC: Hunter Biden’s attorneys have moved to dismiss a lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani and his former lawyer Robert Costello dropping claims that the pair invaded the privacy of president’s son by distributing private information found on a laptop.

The lawsuit, filed last year, accused Giuliani and Costello of violating computer fraud and data access laws, alleging they manipulated data from Biden's "devices or storage platforms."

Hunter Biden's laptop lawsuit sought $75,000 in damages

The lawsuit sought $75,000 in damages and claimed that the defendants were “primarily responsible” for the “total annihilation” of Biden's digital privacy, according to The Hill.

The dismissal, which requires judicial approval, stipulates that each party will pay their legal fees.

“As Giuliani is in bankruptcy and agreed to have the case waiting for when he is done, it made no sense to continue it in a non-bankruptcy court until that happens," a person familiar with the filing told NBC News.

Rudy Giuliani's bankruptcy and legal battles

Giuliani filed for bankruptcy protection in December last after a $148 million verdict was issued against him for defaming two former Georgia election workers, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss and her mother Ruby Freeman following the 2020 election.

The dismissal of Hunter Biden's lawsuit comes the same week he was convicted of three felony counts related to illegally purchasing a firearm.

Although he could face up to 25 years in prison such a lengthy sentence is unlikely for a first-time offender, multiple outlets have noted citing legal experts.

How were the contents from Hunter Biden's 'laptop from hell' leaked?

The laptop also dubbed as 'laptop from hell' by Republicans at the center of the lawsuit contained Biden’s personal information which became a campaign issue after being disseminated publicly.

A computer repair shop owner claimed Biden dropped the laptop off at his store in April 2019 and never picked it up.

In his 2022 book, the owner admitted to reviewing sensitive material from the laptop before contacting Republicans to share the content.

Internet reacts to Hunter Biden's lawsuit dismissal

The news of the dismissal sparked a wave of reactions online. "Now it's time to prosecute Hunter for what's on the laptop," wrote one Trump supporter on X.

Another user argued, "Should never have been brought in the first place because Hunter KNEW that his laptop was NOT manipulated for God's sake."

"But still, Giuliani has been brought to bankruptcy fighting all these fake lawsuits. They all need to be sued for any fake lawsuit that's been filed for reporting the TRUTH!" the user added.

Others highlighted the recent developments in Hunter Biden's legal troubles. "During Hunter's gun trial, the laptop from hell was admitted as evidence. No way he can now turn around and sue Giuliani," noted another commenter.

"Now, Rudy Giuliani would mount a countersuit against him," one more wrote.

"Giuliani should sue for all of the attorneys' fees he’s incurred in defending this BS case thus far," wrote one user.

Another echoed this sentiment, "Wise move given that the laptop’s contents were just verified in court," and added, "So now Rudy should sue Hunter for false accusations. Because it should be clear now that Hunter had to know all the time that it was true."
