NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Speaker Mike Johnson took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse the Democrats of election interference in light of the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump being prosecuted by a "Democratic prosecutor" on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Former president Donald Trump is currently undergoing criminal trial in the New York hush-money case. Seven jurors were placed on the panel on Tuesday, April 16, according to CNN.

His lawyers have reportedly gone through prospective jurors’ social media posts to try to root out those with an anti-Trump bias from getting on the jury, resulting in Judge Juan Merchan warning that he would not be tolerating any attempts to intimidate jurors.

Mike Johnson slams Democrats for using law against Donald Trump

House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the Democrats for Donald Trump's legal woes. He wrote, "The trial against President Trump led by a Democratic prosecutor is the latest salvo in the Biden allies’ outrageous lawfare campaign against the former President."

"From trying to remove him from the ballot, to putting him on trial, the American people see these politically motivated accusations for what they are: Democrats attempting to fix an election they would otherwise lose at the ballot box," he continued.

"The American people, not partisan prosecutors or judges, will get to decide this election," the Speaker added.

Users on social media were not sympathetic toward Mike Johnson's stance and called him out in response to his post.

"Why aren’t you doing anything about it? You and the rest of the republicans in power should be going ballistic against this. Instead you allow it to happen. And then tweet about it," wrote a social media user. "Why should we ever vote for you losers again?" they further asked.

"President Trump is standing up to the radical left. You're bending the knee to them, you coward," stated another.

"Judges and juries are who decide when a criminal is guilty, not the speaker of the house," another user asked.

"Well why actually do anything about it when you can tweet. Big mouth lowlife," one person asked.

"What does it even matter anymore. You don’t care about America," another individual said.

"Speaker Johnson, you're failing America and selling us short. You have failed!" one person said.
