WASHINGTON, DC: Despite Rep Rashida Tlaib's efforts to get progressives to vote "uncommitted" in opposition to the Biden administration's backing for Israel's war against Hamas, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer encouraged Democrats to support the POTUS in her own state's primary.

The 49th Governor of Michigan said that abstaining from voting for Joe Biden would be equivalent to de facto endorsement of Donald Trump. She noted that reelecting the ex-president for a second term "would be devastating" for the nation, as per Daily Mail

Gov Gretchen Whitmer says votes from all communities of Michigan are essential for Joe Biden

Whitmer told CNN State of the Union host Dana Bash on Sunday, February 25, "I just want to make the case, though, that it's important not to lose sight of the fact that any vote that's not cast for Joe Biden supports a second Trump term."

She added, "A second Trump term would be devastating, not just on fundamental rights, not just on our democracy here at home, but also when it comes to foreign policy. This was a man who proposed a Muslim ban. This is, I think, a very high-stakes moment."

Rep Tlaib (D-Mich), a member of Congress' progressive team, has repeatedly encouraged her supporters to vote "uncommitted" in the state's Democratic primary. Her sister has also been engaged in progressing the protest ballot effort through a group named, "Listen to Michigan," as per the New York Post

This primary season, Michigan had its first-ever early in-person voting session. More than 500,000 voters have cast ballots since the early voting period opened on February 17. It's set to conclude on Sunday before the state holds its scheduled Democratic primary on Tuesday.

Even though Biden is the apparent Democratic presidential nominee, some Michigan voters want to make it clear that they are unhappy with the White House's current position on Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza's Palestinian enclaves.

During the CNN interview, Whitmer continued, "I understand the pain that people are feeling and I will continue to build bridges with folks in all of these communities because they're all important to me, they're all important to Michigan and, I know, they're all important to President Biden, as well."

Internet remains divided as Gretchen Whitmer nudges Michigan Dems to support Joe Biden

Gov Whitmer's statement about supporting Biden received mixed reactions from netizens.

One shared, "I can smell that desperation of the Democrats through my phone," while another added, "I don't remember a Muslim Ban. I remember a ban on people coming from countries who don't even know who they are. But, regardless, Biden lets anybody just walk across the border. There is a difference."

"I’d take that over the open border situation we have going on right now," opined a person, and someone else stated, "And we have every confidence that every provisional ballot will go the right way."

An individual mentioned, "The travel ban for people from seven majority-Muslim countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) for 90 days, with certain exceptions @gretchenwhitmer due to the fact at that time these countries didn't cooperate with the US government to verify certain citizens who pose a threat to national security."

"while this is absolutely true, it's not a good way to motivate voters. telling people in pain now 'the other guy is worse' isn't how you get them to vote for you. empathy is the first and most important thing you show show," expressed one more.
