Iran pauses attacks after Trump tells Israel and Tehran to ‘stop shooting’
TEHRAN, IRAN: Iran on Monday announced the suspension of attacks on Israel after the two countries engaged in a brief flare-up in hostilities despite a fragile ceasefire brokered earlier this year.
The development came after President Donald Trump urged both sides to “stop shooting” at each other. Notably, Iran had briefly resumed strikes on Israel after Israel continued its attacks on Lebanon.
Iran halts attacks on Israel
The Iranian military command on Monday, June 8, said that it was halting the operation against Israel after Trump asked both nations to lay down their arms in a first comment since the Middle Eastern enemies escalated hostilities after a temporary ceasefire.
The Iranian military's Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned against continued hostilities, saying that decisive action would follow, as it announced that retaliatory attacks against Israel for assaults on Lebanon were concluded.
"A painful response was delivered to the Israeli regime, and the suspension of armed forces operations is announced," the statement said, according to Iranian state media.
"If the aggressions and provocations continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and decisive actions than before will follow," the statement added.
Trump asks Iran and Israel to stop
Iran’s announcement came after President Donald Trump, in a brief Truth Social post, asked Iran and Israel to stop, saying, “Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting.”
While Iran reportedly had launched three waves of missiles on Israel, Tel Aviv fired truck-based surface-to-air launchers and petrochemical facilities inside the Islamic Republic.
The attacks were reportedly the most intense exchange after the temporary ceasefire brokered on April 8.
In a separate post, Trump insisted that Iran and Israel were “looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!”
“Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” he added. “The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly.”

There was no indication that the US would restart military operations against Tehran as a result of the attacks on Israel.
On the other hand, an Israeli military official told ABC News on Monday that they were preparing for ‘several days’ of strikes or “as long as it will take” amid new direct exchanges between Israel and Iran that resumed on Sunday.
