WASHINGTON, DC: Iran’s top military force fired off a blunt warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after rumors about his alleged assassination started swirling on social media, right in the middle of the heated Iran-Israel conflict.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) didn’t mince words. They issued a stark warning, saying they would continue hunting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and attempt to kill him if he is still alive, further escalating tensions in the region.

IRGC shares sharp message for Netanyahu

Amid rumours of his assassination, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday vowed to “pursue and kill” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who they described as a “child-killing criminal.”

"If this child-killing criminal is alive, we will continue to pursue and kill him with full force," the Guards said in a statement on their website Sepah News.

Top IRGC officials blamed Netanyahu for the war, calling him a “criminal” in regional media. They promised Iran would keep going after him amid escalating tension between the countries.

This threat highlights how much sharply tensions have risen between Iran and Israel after weeks of strikes, missile launches, and retaliatory attacks all over the Middle East.

Rumors about Netanyahu’s alleged death circulates online

The threat from IRGC came just hours after the Israeli PM's office dismissed reports of Netanyahu's assassination and said that the premier is fine.

Several unverified claims and reports were doing the rounds on social media after a video posted on Netanyahu's X handle seemingly showed the Israeli PM with six fingers, sparking rumours of the footage being manipulated or AI-generated.

Speculations were also rife over the PM's son, Yair Netanyahu, and his X handle, as users claimed that he hadn't posted anything since March 9 due to a 'family tragedy.'

However, Netanyahu’s office issued a statement insisting the Israeli leader is safe and calling the rumors “fake news.”

X’s AI chatbot, Grok, also shot down the rumors. It explained that the video on Netanyahu’s X account wasn’t tampered with at all. What people thought were six fingers was just a visual trick. Grok also checked rumors around a deleted post from the Israeli PMO’s account and cleared that up too.

When asked about the claims surrounding the phrase "Netanyahu has been assassinated," a spokesperson from the Israeli PM's office said that these are "fake news" and assured that he is "fine".

Everything changed in late February after Israeli and US forces teamed up and hit Iranian targets in a massive round of airstrikes. Reports say these attacks killed several top Iranian officials, which only poured more fuel on the already raging conflict between the two sides.

But what really shook things up was the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, during a big strike in Tehran. That moment didn’t just crank up the tension, it threw Iran’s entire leadership into chaos.
