WASHINGTON, DC: The Biden campaign recently fact-checked an erroneous blunder made by the new Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Michael Whatley during his Friday, March 15, Fox News appearance.

This comes as the incumbent’s campaign team is attempting to alter voters' perceptions regarding the American economy under President Joe Biden's leadership.

RNC Chair Michael Whatley slipped up while comparing the state of the US under Donald Trump and Joe Biden

During his Fox News interview, Whatley, who recently replaced Ronna McDaniel as chair of RNC, asserted, "At the end of the day, this comes down to a very simple contrast between President Trump and President Biden. Were you better off four years ago than you are today? The answer for this entire country is no," as per Independent

But as President Biden's staff quickly pointed out, the Trump administration was still in power in March 2020.

The Biden campaign team reshared a video of Whatley's Fox News interview, along with an image of Biden donning his trademark aviator sunglasses.

"This post was fact-checked by real American patriots – TRUE," read the image.

Despite the remarkable economic recovery from the pandemic, recent polling data suggests that POTUS is not receiving due recognition for his efforts. According to surveys, most Americans believe that his predecessor Donald Trump handled the economy better, despite evidence to the contrary.

In a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted earlier this month, 59% of voters rated the economy under President Biden as poor, while only 28% had similar views of the economy under former President Trump.

During his State of the Union address, Biden made a compelling argument for his reelection and focused on his success in reviving the economy from the previous administration.

He claimed, "Folks, I inherited an economy that was on the brink. Now, our economy is literally the envy of the world. Fifteen million new jobs in just three years. A record. Unemployment at 50-year lows."

His SOTU remarks appear to have had a positive impact, as indicated by recent survey results. One conducted by USA Today/Suffolk University found that 33% of voters held a favorable view of the economy, a notable increase from the 9% reported in July 2022.

Additionally, President Biden's approval rating increased from 39% late last year to 41% in the same survey. However, the poll also revealed that when asked about their voting preferences, Trump held a slight lead over Biden.

Specifically, 40% of participants indicated they would vote for Trump, while 38% stated they would vote for Biden.

These findings suggest that while Biden's SOTU speech was well-received and may have contributed to improved public sentiment, even though he still faces a challenging political landscape.

Internet reacts to Joe Biden's campaign fact-checking Michael Whatley's Fox News interview gaffe

Netizens seemed to disparage Biden over his campaign team targeting RNC Chair Whatley over a mere on-air slipup.

One remarked, "Who shut down the country four years ago? Not Trump. When he said he would stop all flights from China the left called him xenophobic. You can't have it both ways. divide and conquer the policy of maintaining control over one’s subordinates or opponents by encouraging dissent between them, thereby preventing them from uniting in opposition"

Another said, "Is this a joke? Democrats fact checking.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Best laugh ever!"

A person argued: "Polls depend entirely on who you ask. Not necessarily a good indicator of the entire country."

Someone else declared, "Its not about 2020, its about today 2024. Everyday people don't care about charts, statistics etc WE all Americans now live with higher prices for everything. From bread, butter, to insurance and everything else we buy daily. You can't substitute dreams for reality."

One more stated, "And we are supposed to believe Biden is speaking truthfully about how wonderful Biden has been for the economy?? And down and down goes Biden's poll numbers."
