Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner clear years-long hurdle to join Florida’s ‘Billionaire Bunker’ club
MIAMI, FLORIDA: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have reportedly secured membership at Florida’s ultra-exclusive Indian Creek Country Club after years of waiting to get into the club.
A source told Page Six that a “notice to membership” would be sent out and confirmed, “The Kushners did get in.”
The reported breakthrough comes after the couple spent years building connections on Indian Creek, the gated island near Miami known as the “Billionaire Bunker.”
Ivanka and Kushner bought a $30 million-plus lot there in 2020 and later added more property.
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner secure club membership
Getting into the private club was reportedly not easy for the couple. Their membership had faced resistance amid political feelings surrounding Ivanka’s father, President Donald Trump.
In January 2021, a source told Page Six that even one objection from a member could prevent a new person from joining.
“It only takes one member to object against any new member, and many members are objecting, particularly after the events at the Capitol on January 6,” the source said at the time.
The source also suggested that Ivanka and Kushner could instead socialize with Trump supporters at Mar-a-Lago.
Since then, the couple reportedly worked on building relationships with their neighbors on the exclusive island.
Ivanka was also invited to play golf by members of the club, a sign that the situation around the couple may have changed over time.
Indian Creek Village itself is highly exclusive, with the island reportedly having only 41 residences. That small community has become home to a number of wealthy and well-known residents, making access to its private club particularly sought after.
Jared Kushner joins Indian Creek governing board
Another development came in August, when the Wall Street Journal reported that Jared Kushner had joined the Indian Creek Village governing board as a council member.
That move came as reports suggested that the couple’s chances of getting into the country club had improved. “The social tide is turning,” the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the club’s current thinking.
The report added that “Jared and Ivanka are edging ever closer to club membership.”
The reported membership would now mark the latest step in the couple’s growing presence on the island. Their move to Indian Creek began in 2020, when they purchased the multimillion-dollar lot, and they later expanded their property holdings there.
For the couple, the club membership appears to have been a years-long process rather than an automatic benefit of buying property on the island.
Kushner’s reported appointment to the village governing board and Ivanka’s invitations to play golf with club members came as signs that their position within the community was changing.
A source previously explained that even some of the world’s richest people could not simply expect to get into the club after moving to Indian Creek.
Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg faced club hurdles
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are not the only high-profile residents whose club membership has reportedly been difficult to secure.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were also reportedly waiting to join the club. The couple owned $234 million worth of real estate across three properties on Indian Creek but had not yet succeeded in gaining membership.
“No one is going to make it easy because he is Jeff Bezos,” a source said. “You have to go to mixers. You don’t just move there and think you can get in. For anyone.”
The comments highlighted the reportedly lengthy process involved in joining the private club, even for some of the world’s best-known billionaires.
Mark Zuckerberg and members of the Qatari royal family, who also lived in the neighborhood, had reportedly not been granted access either.
The exclusive community has also counted several other well-known names among its current and former residents, including Carl Icahn, Norman Braman, Don Shula, Robert Diener, Adriana Lima, Eddie Lampert and Jeff Soffer.
