LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Democratic strategist James Carville didn’t mince words when commenting on Steve Bannon’s upcoming prison sentence for contempt of Congress.

Bannon, a former White House adviser to Donald Trump, faces a four-month term starting next month for defying a subpoena from the House Jan 6 select committee.

In a recent segment on MSNBC’s 'The Beat,' Carville responded to Bannon’s provocative remarks about the 2020 election. Bannon had asserted, “We’re the railhead of the big steal every day, with every aspect of it, and we take pride in it,” in an interview with 'The Guardian'.

He further demanded allegiance to the belief that the election was stolen, stating, “I’m adamant. There shouldn’t be anybody in the Trump campaign or the [Republican National Committee] in a paid position that does not believe to the marrow of their bones that the 2020 election was stolen. If you don’t believe that, to me, you miss the point of where we are and why we’re here.”

Controversy surrounds Steve Bannon's insistence on election theft

Bannon’s statements have continued to stir controversy, especially his insistence that those in the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee must believe the election was stolen.

Carville highlighted the divisive nature of Bannon’s rhetoric, implying it could pose challenges within the prison environment.

“Well, he’s gonna have four months to contemplate everything,” Carville replied. “But I think whoever his cellmate is can make a good Eighth Amendment case if you remember that from law school. That’s cruel and unusual punishment. You have to be in the cell and smell this guy. I think that’s something out of some North Korean torture chamber."

He added, "But he’s going to have, boy’s gonna have a lot of time to think about 2020 and his past life and whatever the future holds because he’s going to the penitentiary, probably for longer than four months. But please, Lord… he needs a cell by himself because he’s gonna stink that jail up something fierce.”

Internet reacts to Steve Bannon’s legal woes

One added, "I heard people says he smells like sulfur."
