WASHINGTON, DC: Jamie Raskin (D-MD) sparked a furious backlash as he warned that former President Donald Trump will try to "overturn" the election again if he loses the 2024 presidential race.

During an interview on CNN’s 'State of the Union', the 65-year-old Democratic lawmaker refrained from stating whether Maine's choice to remove Trump from the 2024 ballot due to the 14th Amendment will turn him into a "martyr."

However, he did claim that the front-runner for the GOP nomination "can strike the pose of the martyr in any given context."

Raskin stated, "If he’s allowed to stay on the ballot, despite his clear incitement of an insurrection and attempt to overturn the results in the 2020 election, and he loses to Joe Biden…He will feel himself a martyr there, and he will try to overturn the election result again."

"So I don’t think we can run scared of Donald Trump. We have got to enforce our Constitution. And that certainly was the design of the framers, and that’s what they would have us do," added the Maryland Rep, according to The Hill.

Following Colorado, Maine became the second state to strike the former president from the ballot, arguing that Trump is ineligible to run for the election under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

With the ex-POTUS vowing to challenge the rulings in Colorado and Maine, the Supreme Court may end up making the final say. However, Raskin argued that Trump has disqualified himself from the ballot under the 14th Amendment for his actions leading up to and on January 6, 2021.

He said, "I mean, under constitutional federalism, every state is ultimately going to control its own ballot access and access to candidates for the ballot."

"And that is obviously difficult when we’re talking about electing the president, who is the one official we have got in America who is supposed to represent the entire country, represent everybody," expressed Raskin.

He further stated, "And so I think that the urgency is for the Supreme Court to act. But I think it’s going to be tough for some of them, if they want to keep Trump on the ballot if they’re falling for the argument that this is undemocratic."

Internet reacts to Jamie Raskin's remarks about Donald Trump's disqualification from ballots

Soon after Raskin's comments about Trump, especially about the possibility of the ex-POTUS overturning another election, came to light, netizens wasted no time to criticize the Maryland Rep.

One wrote, "Fear of the unknown," while another asked, "How does Jamie Raskin know that? He could have “it is my opinion that ….” I guess that would not be political."

A person said, "Sounds like he’s saying the Dems plan on doing a lot of cheating…..again," with someone else quipped, "Hey @RepRaskin, will we need the military to remove @JoeBiden from the White House when Trump takes office on Jan 20, 2025?"

"I wouldn't expect anything different from the propagandist," opined an individual, while one more claimed, "While Democrats are trying to make sure everyone knows they stole it."
