WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance, on Wednesday, August 20, rebuked California Governor Gavin Newsom for trying to mimic President Donald Trump’s social media style.
Vance called it “inauthentic,” while pointing to what he described as early success from Trump’s aggressive crime crackdown in Washington, DC.
JD Vance calls out Gavin Newsom’s inauthenticity
Speaking on Fox News’ 'The Ingraham Angle', JD Vance said Gavin Newsom’s approach misunderstands why Donald Trump’s style resonates with voters.
“This idea that Gavin Newsom is somehow going to mimic Donald Trump’s style: I think that ignores the fundamental genius of President Trump’s political success, which is that he’s authentic,” Vance told host Laura Ingraham. “He just is who he is. You’ve got to be yourself. You’ve got, actually, to talk to people honestly about the issues.”

Vance also dismissed Newsom’s attempt at mockery through a nickname, “Just Dance Vance,” calling it unserious. “Stop sounding like crazy people,” the vice president said, addressing Democrats more broadly. “That’s really all it is… Don’t be a crazy person. Be authentic. If the Democrats did that, they’d do a hell of a lot better.”
Pivoting to law and order, Vance highlighted Trump’s August 11 executive order that placed Washington, DC’s police force under federal control and deployed thousands of federal law enforcement officers and National Guard troops.

“Violent crime has dropped in DC, 35% in nine days. Robberies in DC have dropped 55% in nine days,” Vance claimed.
He argued the rapid improvement proves “living with lawlessness and disorder” is a political choice, not an inevitability.
“It’s fundamentally a question of political will,” Vance said. “If you’ve got the political will to enforce the law, you can make even cities like DC safe again, and that’s what we’re demonstrating.”
Internet split over JD Vance’s jab at Gavin Newsom’s ‘authenticity’
JD Vance’s criticism of Gavin Newsom sparked a wave of responses across social media.
One wrote, "I doubt Newsom is electable. Dems making another mistake. This country doesn’t want a progressive," and another said, "Yeah they’re making fun of him… not aiming to be authentic dimwit."

Some acknowledged Trump’s unique appeal even while criticizing his policies. "Trump is very good at what he does. Even if you hate his policies, which I often do, he is funny, engaging, entertaining, rarely dull. Newsom has some natural charisma as well, but Trump is in a league of his own," a person noted.

Others dismissed Newsom outright, with one saying, "Gavin Newsom has failed California," while another argued, "I doubt there is such a thing as an 'authentic' Gavin Newsom."

Still, some saw Vance’s comments as proof that Newsom's strategy was getting attention. "It’s working!!! You’re talking about it," one tweet read.
JD Vance says Democrats are overreacting about Trump's DC crackdown
Responding to critics who called Donald Trump’s actions authoritarian, JD Vance said the president’s opponents were overreacting.

“If you look at the crime issue, they’re calling Donald Trump a fascist for taking action,” Vance said. “So part of sounding less crazy is being less crazy.”
The vice president concluded by arguing Americans should not accept persistent violence in major cities.
“You do not have to live with lawlessness and disorder,” Vance said. “You do not have to live with third-world murder rates. If you just take control of these cities, you can make them safe places to live in.”
