WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance took to Bluesky over the weekend to urge Black Lives Matter supporters to celebrate President Donald Trump.

According to Vance, Trump has done more to "save Black Lives than any leader in our country."

Notably, Trump previously referred to BLM as a “symbol of hate,” labeled its supporters “thugs,” and deployed the National Guard to shut down protests in Washington, DC, following the 2020 killing of George Floyd by police, Rolling Stone reported.

But Vance insists that Trump has done more for Black lives than any other leader, citing recent developments in Africa.

JD Vance hails Donald Trump’s role in the DRC-Rwanda peace treaty

JD Vance’s comments came after a peace agreement was signed between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda — a deal brokered by the US and Qatar. Vance wasted no time in giving Trump full credit.

“The peace treaty signing yesterday between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda was truly historic,” Vance wrote on Bluseky. “That war has killed more than any since World War II, almost all of them Black.”

He added, “I'm sure the leaders and supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement will join me in celebrating President Trump today, who has done more to save Black lives than any leader in our country.”

Vance even tagged New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie, a longtime critic of both him and Trump. Bouie had previously condemned Vance’s apparent embrace of “blood and soil nationalism,” a phrase rooted in Nazi ideology.

Trump, for his part, appeared proud of the deal. “They were going at it for many years, and with machetes, it is one of the worst, one of the worst wars that anyone has ever seen. And I just happened to have somebody that was able to get it settled,” he said on June 27.

Trump also claimed the US would benefit from the agreement. “We’re getting, for the United States, a lot of the mineral rights from the Congo as part of it. They’re so honored to be here. They never thought they’d be coming,” he added.

It’s worth noting that the Congo region is one of the most resource-rich in the world, with vast reserves of cobalt, copper, coltan, diamonds, and gold. Experts estimate Congo’s mineral wealth could be worth up to $24 trillion.

But there’s a darker side to the story. Last year, the Congolese government filed criminal complaints in France and Belgium, accusing Apple subsidiaries of using so-called “blood minerals,” resources extracted through violence, child labor, and exploitation.

“These activities have fueled a cycle of violence and conflict by financing militias and terrorist groups and have contributed to forced child labor and environmental devastation,” lawyers for Congo said in a statement.

JD Vance claimed that corporate America backed BLM for profit, not justice

JD Vance has never been shy about expressing his disdain for Black Lives Matter.

Back in 2021, in a scathing essay for The American Mind titled “Fighting Woke Capital,” he floated a conspiracy theory claiming that insurance companies and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos supported BLM — not out of solidarity, but for profit.

“Woke capital is when companies and businesses are more invested in a movement like BLM than they are in traditional American principles, and they are,” he wrote.

According to Vance, insurance companies funded BLM because protests led to property damage, and those same insurers could then deny coverage, supposedly enriching themselves.

He went further, suggesting that major corporations stood to gain from the unrest. “Now, who benefits most when small businesses on Main Street are destroyed?” he asked. “Who wants to see their competitors unable to deliver goods and services to people so they get it delivered in the Amazon box? Jeff Bezos.”

“There is a direct connection between woke capital and the plunder that’s happening in our society today,” Vance added. “The people who are invested in destroying America via our corporate class are also getting rich from it. This is an important piece of the puzzle to understand.”

For the record, Amazon donated $10 million to social justice groups in 2020, including Black Lives Matter. However, according to Rolling Stone, Vance’s interpretation of that donation — and his portrayal of the protests as an orchestrated campaign to destroy property remains unfounded.
