According to a post on JD Vance’s X (formerly Twitter) account, the US vice president celebrated his wife Usha Vance’s 40th birthday with a heartfelt message. “Happy Birthday to my darling Usha, who turns 40 today!” he wrote
The message was shared alongside a warm photo of the couple descending from Air Force Two. In the image, JD and Usha are seen holding hands, smiling at each other, and locking eyes as they step off the aircraft together. Within a few hours of being posted, the message drew significant attention online, racking up more than 1.9 million views and nearly 9,800 comments, many of which included birthday wishes for the Second Lady.
For context, JD and Usha Vance married in 2014 after meeting while attending Yale Law School. The couple share three children, two sons, Ewan, born in June 2017, and Vivek, born in February 2020, and a daughter, Mirabel, born in December 2021.
The Vances’ response to speculation about their marriage
The Vances have faced repeated speculations about the state of their marriage since JD Vance rose to national political prominence.
The rumors first gained traction after Usha Vance appeared without her wedding ring during a visit to Camp Lejeune, a military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina, alongside First Lady Melania Trump on November 19.
Additional attention followed a viral moment in late October when the vice president shared a hug onstage with Erika Kirk at a Turning Point USA event. Comments Vance made at the same event about his wife’s religion further fueled online discussion.
On October 29, he said he hoped Usha, who was raised Hindu and continues to identify as such, might one day convert to Catholicism, as he did in his 30s. The moment was interpreted by some as a sign of marital strain, adding to ongoing speculation.
A spokesperson for Usha Vance later pushed back against the rumors, explaining that she is 'a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.' In December, JD Vance also addressed the speculation in an interview with NBC News, saying he and his wife 'kind of get a kick out of it' and stressing that their marriage is 'as strong as it’s ever been'. "My spouse will never be replaced by anyone,” he said.
Usha Vance has likewise downplayed the significance of her wedding ring. Speaking to USA Today, she said, “I wear it when I wear it, and I don’t when I don’t,” adding that there are times she is not wearing it simply because she has been at the gym or just showered.
