BYRON, MICHIGAN: JD Vance may have hoped to fuel his campaign with fiery rhetoric, but his recent comment about car prices sent his credibility skidding off the road.

At an August 14 rally in Byron Center, Michigan, former president Donald Trump's running mate found himself in the hot seat after wildly miscalculating the cost of a new car, claiming it runs nearly $50,000 per year.

Addressing the crowd, he rattled off a litany of price increases, from gas to housing, placing the blame squarely on Harris. "Under Kamala Harris, gas prices are up 50 percent," Vance declared.

“I know we’re a trucking company. You think truckers benefit when gas prices go up 50 percent? No, and neither do the people who depend on truckers, which is every single one of us." He asserted that housing prices have doubled, grocery costs have risen by 21 percent, and that countless Americans are now juggling multiple jobs just to stay afloat.

JD Vance misses the mark with $50K car price slip

The real shocker, however, came when JD Vance claimed that "the average new car costs nearly $50,000 per year"—an astonishing error that many found difficult to overlook.

"This November, my friends, we’re going to send a message that Michigan chooses 'prosperity over poverty' and that we will never accept four more years of Kamala Harris," he told the crowd. "She’s outta there!"
