WASHINGTON, DC: Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki is officially scheduled to testify before the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the botched 2021 US forces withdrawal from Afghanistan, per the New York Post.

Last month, committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) stated that Psaki had tentatively agreed to appear on July 26, pending White House approval.

The Biden administration has since given the go-ahead, and the Psaki meeting is now "fully set," a committee spokesperson confirmed, according to a report by Axios.

What did the Foreign Affairs Committee share regarding Jen Psaki’s upcoming testimony?

Last month, the House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said, “The Committee has a vested interest in understanding those diplomatic and information transmission failures, which led to misrepresentations regarding, amongst other things, coordination with allies, contingency planning, the foreseeability of Afghanistan’s collapse, and the safety of Americans and allies in Afghanistan.”

Eventually, the White House Counsel's Office informed the panel that it would allow Psaki to be interviewed as an "extraordinary accommodation."

McCaul had threatened Psaki with a subpoena if she failed to appear for her testimony.

The House Committee initially requested to interview Jen Psaki in September but the White House prevented it at the time, advising the panel to explore other options for obtaining the information it needed.

Psaki departed from the White House in May 2022 and currently works as a host and analyst on MSNBC.

In May of this year, the former Biden spokeswoman was compelled to amend a false statement in her book, ‘Say More', claiming that Biden did not look at his watch during the dignified transfer ceremony for 13 American service members killed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

The service members had died in an ISIS-K suicide bombing on August 26, 2021, while processing Afghan evacuees at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee has been compiling a report outlining the tumultuous withdrawal from Afghanistan and the resurgence of the Taliban, which is expected to be released before the presidential election.

McCaul has consistently clashed with the Biden administration during the investigation, including in the process of obtaining dissent cables from US diplomats who criticized the US withdrawal.

Another significant aspect of the report is likely to be the revelation of differences between what President Biden was telling the public and the actual situation on the ground.

Psaki could provide insight into what the administration's communications team knew about the Afghanistan situation and what information was and wasn't shared with the American public.

The Afghanistan crisis marked a pivotal moment in Biden's public approval. Prior to the withdrawal, the Democrat statesman enjoyed positive job approval ratings, but after the withdrawal, these ratings turned negative and have since remained so, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

Internet lambasts Jen Psaki for evading subpoena

One X user remarked, "I don’t get it. If a citizen is subpoenaed they HAVE to appear. If not they are in contempt. How do these people get away with it?"

Another user said, "Send her to jail."

Another user wrote, "Well, it will be interesting to see what she has to say. Biden administration completely butchered the withdrawal."

One X user snarked, "At least she only lies 50 percent of the time as opposed to KJP."

Another user quipped, "Don’t worry, raggedy Ann said she’d circle back to it."

Someone else tweeted, "Raid her home and drag her out in cuffs then ship to gitmo."
