LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actress Jennifer Lopez reflected on her “magic” on-screen chemistry with co-star Brett Goldstein at the premiere of 'Office Romance' at the Egyptian Theatre on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The workplace romantic comedy will premiere globally on Netflix on June 5. During the interview, the duo opened up about their on-screen chemistry, the making of the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, and how the project came together. The premiere appearance also comes after she and actor Ben Affleck officially finalized their divorce early last year, following two years of marriage.
Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein discuss ‘Office Romance’ chemistry
During the conversation, the host asked Goldstein what would have happened if Lopez had declined the film, prompting the actor to reveal that he and co-writer Joe Kelly wrote the script specifically for her and never considered an alternative casting choice.
“We wouldn't have made it,” Goldstein said. “It was me and Joe Kelly and we sent her the script with a letter that said, you're at the top of our list. It's a list of one. If you say no, we're not going to make this film. No pressure.”
Lopez said she was “flattered” when she first received the script and read it immediately, though she could not commit to the project at the time. Nearly a year later, she revisited the script after learning the team had made revisions and reached out again.
“And a few months later, we were on set,” Lopez said. When the host remarked that the collaboration was “meant to be,” she affirmed, “Yes. It was magic. It really was. It was very easy.” The actress also shared her admiration for Goldstein’s role as Roy Kent in 'Ted Lasso.'
She said, “Roy Kent's my guy, I love him and Keeley. I was a huge, huge fan.” Discussing further their on-screen connection, she said chemistry can sometimes require effort, but in their case, “it was very kind of easy right from the beginning.”
The actor jokingly responded by praising her acting abilities, saying she “could probably have chemistry with a bin.” Goldstein also described 'Office Romance' as “a love letter to workaholics.” He explained that the filmmakers wanted to create a romantic comedy where “the work matters.”
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s relationship and divorce
Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court documents. The pair, popularly known as “Bennifer,” married in Las Vegas in July 2022 before holding a larger wedding celebration in Georgia the following month.
Their relationship originally began after they met while filming the 2003 crime film 'Gigli.' Although they had planned to marry in 2003, they ended their relationship in early 2004 before rekindling their romance nearly two decades later.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” she said in 2022 after announcing their wedding.
Reports also indicated Lopez, who had legally changed her surname to Affleck, did not include details of a prenuptial agreement in the filing. She is also reportedly selling the Beverly Hills estate she once shared with him, according to People. The 38,000-square-foot mansion was relisted on May 5 for USD 50 million, as reflected in property records.
In April 2026, court filings revealed that Affleck officially transferred his share of the estate to her, leaving her responsible for overseeing the sale of the property as well as its ongoing maintenance expenses.
