Jennifer Lopez says winning awards doesn’t ‘matter much’ to her after years of major snubs
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez opened up about her personal life in a recent interview, saying she does not feel “irked” about not winning major awards despite multiple nominations. She shared that having a small, trusted circle of people she can talk to means more to her than any award.
The 'Dance Again' singer has received nominations across major platforms, including the Golden Globes, Emmys, Grammys, and Academy Awards, but has yet to secure a win. She even shared her thoughts on why she has stopped writing speeches for award shows.
Jennifer Lopez talks about not winning awards despite several nominations
During a nearly hour-and-33-minute interview on 'The Howard Stern Show', Lopez opened up about her life, career, and experiences with major award nominations. The conversation covered everything from her childhood and musical journey to her views on recognition in the entertainment industry.
Howard Stern asked, “You’ve been nominated for Grammys. I think it was an Emmy also. You’ve been nominated for a bunch of different awards. Does it irk you that you haven’t won?” “No, it irk doesn’t,” Lopez responded.
She went on to reflect on how she views success and recognition in the industry, saying that while nominations are exciting and winning is always desired, the outcome is not everything.
“You’re very excited when you get nominated for something, you know, and you want to win. Of course everybody wants to, especially a Grammy. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter that much. You are still in the conversation of the best people in the world doing what they do, and that’s amazing,” she said.

Lopez recalled the intense effort she put into the role, including weeks of training to learn pole dancing, which made the outcome harder to process. She also reflected on a similar feeling from her 1998 film 'Selena' nomination. Despite strong acclaim for the 2019 movie, the Oscar went to Laura Dern for 'Marriage Story'.
Lopez said the moment stayed with her because she had invested so much into the performance. She added that it changed the way she approaches awards season going forward. For her, the focus remains more on the work than the outcome.
