Jennifer Lopez shares heartfelt Pride Month message after child Emme debuts new name at high school
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez marked the beginning of Pride Month with an uplifting video message shared on Instagram on Monday, June 1, through Netflix’s 'Most' campaign, an LGBTQ+ visibility and Pride initiative that celebrates queer characters in youth-oriented programming.
The video was released ahead of the Friday, June 5, premiere of 'Office Romance,' her upcoming romantic comedy. The post also comes just days after reports surfaced that her 18-year-old child, known as Oskar Muniz, came out as transgender and is using he/him pronouns.
Jennifer Lopez delivers heartfelt Pride Month message
In the video, Lopez addressed viewers directly, saying, “Hi, beautiful people. It's Jennifer Lopez, star of Office Romance, and I am here to wish you a very happy Pride Month.” She continued, “Let's be honest, you deserve all 12 months of the year, so make sure this one is extra, extra special.”
Adding a playful note, she joked, “In fact, you officially have permission to skip work. Just tell your boss, Jennifer Lopez said it was okay. I am sure they'll understand.” The singer then shifted to a more serious message, stating, “But in all seriousness, I hope all of your months are filled with love, laughter, joy, and chosen family.”
Addressing those who may not yet feel comfortable publicly sharing their identity, she added, “And if you're not out yet, that's okay. We're here and we're waiting for you whenever you're ready. No rush, no pressure, just love.”
She concluded the message by saying, “Now let's get loud and proud this month. I love you.” Lopez has long been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and previously spoke about her excitement for Pride celebrations while discussing her plans to headline WorldPride in Washington, DC.
She stated, “I’m excited to tour. I’m excited first to go do Pride, I’m super excited about that. I’m working on that show right now too as we speak, and crafting the tour as well. I’m excited to get back out there.”
Reflecting on the period in her life, she added, “It seems like a perfect summer to celebrate being free and being happy. Just everything in my life right now just feels really healthy and good, and I’m ready to get out there and make people sing and dance and have a good time. That’s always my goal.”
Jennifer Lopez’s child comes out as transgender and adopts new identity
Lopez’s Pride Month message comes as she is also celebrating her twins' graduation from high school. At the same time, fans have been discussing reports involving one of her children after a resurfaced social media post sparked speculation that Emme Muniz is now going by the name Oskar.
The conversation began after an Instagram account dedicated to documenting the future plans of graduating students from Windward School shared a post on March 6. “Oskar to Sarah Lawrence!” the account wrote while announcing the graduate’s next chapter.
The post featured a childhood photo of the graduate wearing a pink-and-white patterned sundress with shoulder-length curly hair and revealed that the teen would soon be heading to New York for college.
The caption also referenced the graduate’s longstanding interest in theater, stating, “Good thing it’s only a few hours away from Stagedoor." The account also tagged what appeared to be an Instagram profile connected to the teen.
Lopez previously spoke about the possibility of her children joining her at Pride events during the summer. “I think my kids are going to come to Pride because I’m doing more of a concert [at WorldPride], so I’m excited about that,” she said of her teens joining her amid her summer gigs.
Speaking affectionately about them, Lopez added, “They’re sweet. They’re the best,” adding how school commitments sometimes affect their ability to travel with her, saying, “They have school, so they can’t come. Sometimes I’ll take them out of school for something special.”
