Jill Biden sent note to Melania Trump ahead of White House shift: ‘What would be the point of nastiness?’
WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Jill Biden recently revealed that she extended a gesture of kindness to Melania Trump after the incoming first lady did not accept her traditional invitation for tea at the White House in November 2024.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Jill Biden said that as a substitute she passed a note to President-elect Donald Trump for his wife when the two met at the reopening of the Notre Dame in December last year.
Jill Biden sent a note to Melania Trump offering help
Jill Biden said during the interview, "I congratulated her and I offered help. What would be the point of nastiness?"
Notably, Biden did not hear back from Melania until they spoke briefly at former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral last week, when Melania thanked the first lady, according to The Hill.
Moreover, Melania Trump’s absence from the customary White House tea meeting may be the first time an incoming first lady has not attended the occasion.
During the tea meeting, the first lady usually invites her successor for tea in the White House when the outgoing president hosts the new president-elect in the Oval Office.
After the 2016 election, Michelle Obama invited Melania Trump for tea in the Yellow Room. However, after the controversial 2020 election, Melania skipped the meeting with Jill Biden since Trump consistently and erroneously asserted that he was the real winner.
Her office released a statement saying "the media continue to provide false, misleading and inaccurate information" about her absence from the event in 2024, per Daily Beast.
Melania says she has no interest in another Vogue cover
In December 2024, Melania Trump appeared on 'Fox & Friends' and host Brian Kilmeade asked her whether she’d consider posing for magazine covers once her husband returns to the White House in 2025, per Page Six.
The host said, "One thing that stood out for us is here you are, this beautiful international model, and you’re the first lady of the United States, the world’s most popular country."
He asked Melania, "You’re in the White House, and you’re not on the cover of any of these magazines. Do you think that will change? And would you say yes to them — the Vogues, the Peoples, whatever?"
Melania, the Slovenian model-turned-first lady, replied, "Look, I’ve been there on the covers — on the cover of Vogue, on the covers of many magazines before. We have so many other important things to do than to be on the cover of any magazine."
She added, "I think that life would not change for anybody if I’m on the cover."

Interestingly, many believed this to be a subtle jab at Jill Biden, who appeared on the cover of Vogue Magazine in the August edition .
Notably, in 2022, Melania told 'Fox & Friends' during her first post-White House interview in 2022, "They (Vogue) are biased, and they have likes and dislikes, and it’s so obvious."
She made the statement as the magazine did not feature her on the cover during her first run as the first lady.
