LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: CNN’s Jim Acosta took Republican operative David Urban to task over his criticism of the Steele dossier, which had suggested a conspiracy between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the 2016 presidential election.

Urban's comments came amid a discussion on Monday, September 2, about Trump claiming to have a "right" to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including putting pressure on Vice President Mike Pence to reject the certified results.

Jim Acosta challenges David Urban’s comparison of 2016 and 2020 election controversies

David Urban drew a comparison between Donald Trump’s 2020 actions after the 2020 elections and the response of Democrats to Trump's surprising 2016 victory. After the 2016 elections results, then Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton conceded her defeat gracefully.

Urban said, "After the 2016 election, I had to suffer through four years of Russia collusion, which we now know was all funded by the DNC, the Steele dossier and everything."

Acosta, however, was ready to counter Urban’s claims, dismissing the idea that the investigation into possible collusion between Trump and Russian operatives in 2016 to subvert the presidential election was merely a hoax.

Acosta argued, "When Don Jr and Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort are meeting with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in 2016, I mean, you know, come on."

Urban responded by focusing on the Steele dossier's credibility, insisting, "But Jim, the Steele dossier was fake!"

He did not directly address Acosta’s point regarding the significant Trump Tower meeting where members of Trump’s inner circle met with a Russian operative offering "dirt" on Clinton.

Acosta pressed further, asking, "Why did the president's son, son-in-law, and campaign manager meet with a Russian attorney at Trump Tower? Did you ever ask Donald Trump why they did that?"

Urban admitted, "Jim, I didn’t," to which Acosta incredulously replied, "What campaign does that?!"

The controversial Steele dossier published in 2017 made bombshell allegations about Trump and his supposed ties to Russia. As per the allegations, Trump conspired with the Kremlin to win the 2016 election.

However, the credibility of the Steele dossier has come into question.
