NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A former campaign advisor to Donald Trump, David Urban hinted that Melania Trump might significantly influence his choice of running mate, mentioning the former first lady during a conversation with CNN's Erin Burnett on June 21 on 'Outfront'.

When asked by Burnett about who he believed would have the most influence over former President Trump’s choice of running mate, Urban mentioned Melania Trump.

Melania Trump's influence looms large in selection of Trump's potential VP

Burnett noted that business mogul Rupert Murdoch, conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, and Fox News anchor Sean Hannity are among those who have shared their opinions on the matter.

"Melania Trump. His wife! I’d like to know who Melania likes," Urban told Burnett, emphasizing her role as "probably his closest advisor."

Burnett mentioned that Sen JD Vance (R-Ohio), Gov Doug Burgum (R-ND), and Sen Marco Rubio (R-Fla) are among the leading contenders for the VP slot.

Urban highlighted the former first lady's significant influence over Trump, as reports state.

"The former first lady has “great deal of influence over her husband,” David Urban noted

He noted that she "has been in these people’s presence" and can provide informed suggestions regarding the best running mate for her husband.

"It will be interesting to see who she likes," Urban remarked.

In addition to Vance, Burgum, and Rubio, other leading contenders for the vice presidential slot reportedly include Sen Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen Tom Cotton (R-Ark), and Rep Byron Donalds (R-Fla).

CNN reported that the shortlist for former President Trump's running mate is narrowing, with Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and JD Vance (R-OH), along with North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R), emerging as the leading contenders.

Donald Trump's VP decision looms as Republican National Convention nears

Talk surrounding potential running mates for former President Trump has intensified as the Republican National Convention approaches.

Trump indicated earlier this month that he plans to unveil his vice presidential choice during the convention in July, which will be held in Milwaukee.

Among the top contenders mentioned beyond J.D. Vance, Doug Burgum, and Marco Rubio are Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, and Representative Byron Donalds of Florida.

In 2016, Trump announced his selection of former Vice President Mike Pence as his running mate just days before the convention.

According to Politico, Vance, Burgum, and Rubio are currently seen as occupying a higher tier among potential candidates, according to several Trump allies who spoke anonymously.

However, the rankings of all the candidates appear to fluctuate regularly.

Urban emphasized the unpredictability of Trump's decisions: "Everyone who has been around the president long enough knows never to surmise what he’s going to do."
