NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News host Bret Baier confronted Sen JD Vance (R-OH) over his past criticisms of former President Donald Trump on 'Special Report', amid speculation that Vance is being considered for the former president’s vice-presidential shortlist.

Vance, previously a tech venture capitalist and author of the bestselling memoir 'Hillbilly Elegy', was once a vocal critic of Trump. However, he has since become a strong supporter.

It is noteworthy to mention that Trump's endorsement was instrumental in Vance's win in the Ohio Republican primary for the US Senate in 2022, ultimately leading to his general election victory.

Bret Baier presses JD Vance on past anti-Trump remarks

During Vance's appearance on Fox News, Baier highlighted some of Vance's past remarks, making for a potentially uncomfortable exchange.

Baier began, "You know, Senator, this is an evolution. And I know you’ve been asked about this before about past comments that you made about Donald Trump. You’ve said: 'I’m a never-Trump guy'; 'never liked him'; 'terrible candidate'; 'idiot if you voted for him'; 'might be America’s Hitler'; 'might be a cynical a-hole'; 'cultural heroin'; 'noxious and reprehensible'."

"Those are things that the left is gonna come after you [with] and they’re probably gonna be put in ads, should you be chosen as the VP pick. How do you deal with them now?" Baier asked.

Vance responded, "Yeah, well, I think the simple answer is you’ve gotta respect the American people enough to just level with them. Look, I was wrong about Donald Trump. I didn’t think he was gonna be a good president, Bret. He was a great president. And it’s one of the reasons why I’m working so hard to make sure he gets a second term."

He added, "I think you should – when you’re wrong about something – you should change your mind and be honest with people about that fact."

Despite his past criticisms of Trump, Vance has fully committed to supporting the former president. Last week, he vowed to obstruct President Joe Biden’s judicial nominations in retaliation for Trump's recent conviction on 34 felony counts in New York.

Netizens slam Vance as 'two faced' for his changed stance on Trump

Viewers shared sharp criticism of Vance for being a harsh critic of Trump before wholeheartedly embracing the ex-president

A viewer expressed, "Look at all the weird and creepy people who once said that Trump was "dangerous" only to bend the knee, grovel at his feet and kiss his ring. ......TOTALLY DISGUSTING.... Only Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger have shown any patriotism or bravery. The rest of the gutless GOP will go down in history as Quislings."

In a similar fashion, another observer added, "They only said Trump was "dangerous" because they were of afraid of the consequences of supporting Trump, not Trump himself. Once he got in power for few years, it was safer for them to put the MAGA cap on."

Furthermore, a viewer pointed out, "There is no greater "sin" in the Trump cult than showing any disagreement or dissatisfaction with anything Trump says or does... but they get mad when you say they are in a "cult."

Joining the discussion, a follower shared, "Trumpers are embarrassing."

A remark underscored, "Spineless Republican - not a bug it's a feature.."

Similarly, another comment echoed, "I bet JD Vance wasn't expecting Brett Baier to put such a huge hit on him.."

Delving deeper into the topic, an individual elaborated, "JD Vance is so two-faced you can't sneak up on him."
