DES MOINES, IOWA: Fox News anchor Bret Baier recently announced that he and Martha MacCallum will be moderating a town hall with former President Donald Trump in Des Moines, Iowa on January 10.

Notably, CNN will be holding a Republican presidential primary debate between Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley at the same time and place, which the outlet labeled as the “final opportunity for candidates to make an impression in front of a national audience before voting begins.”

As Baier made this announcement on Fox News, he also responded to certain questions asked on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the upcoming town hall with Trump.

Previously, Trump was also present at a town hall with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, making the Iowa town hall in 2024 his second stint with Fox News as the Presidential election year begins.

Bret Baier makes ‘big announcement’ on Fox News

Anchor Bret Baier took over Fox News as he shared the announcement with viewers. Baier said, “Big announcement right now. Fox News is hosting a town hall with former President Donald Trump. It is scheduled for January 10th in Des Moines, Iowa. Start time 9.00 pm Eastern. Martha MacCallum and I will moderate that. We hope to see you there.”

He added, “I tell you, Dana, that's just five days ahead of the Iowa caucuses and that is a big deal as he is obviously trying to reach out to Iowa voters and answer some tough questions not only from us but also from voters in the crowd.”

Dana Perino, who had joined Baier, said, “The Trump campaign and President Trump himself have long said, 'I'm not going to lose Iowa this time around.' He barely lost to Ted Cruz in 2016 and so their organization has been quite impressive. Of course, DeSantis and Haley are in double digits, far behind President Trump.”

She added, “As those voters we just talked to said, they believe that there could still be some surprises. The last five days going into the election or those caucuses [are] going to be super important so no time like the present to have this town hall that you and Martha are going to do.”

Bret Baier admits he ‘approached’ Trump campaign for town hall

After the announcement was made, Bret Baier took the liberty to respond to a user who needed clarification about the upcoming town hall with Donald Trump.

One user asked, “@BretBaier can you confirm that Trump will not have advanced knowledge of the questions? I also would again like to ask: Did Fox News approach the Trump campaign or did the Trump campaign approach Fox News about doing this town hall at the same time as the GOP debate?”

To this, Baier responded, “The former President will not have the questions in advance or any knowledge of the questions from me, Martha or from citizens in the crowd - who will be a mix of Iowa voters.”

The anchor added, “And I can confirm that I approached the Trump campaign about doing a town hall in Iowa. They had turned down the debate (and all debates) and wanted to do it then.”
