NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Show host Jimmy Fallon keeps his commentary sharp even when touching on highly sensitive topics, especially political. On 'The Tonight Show', Fallon created a playful bit where he 'interviews' Donald Trump about the president’s controversial decision to seize Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
Of course, Trump wasn’t physically present, Fallon performed a comedic sketch using small video clips of Trump’s own responses that aligned surprisingly well with Fallon’s witty and hard-hitting questions.
This segment was aired on Tuesday, January 6. Meanwhile, the real‑world event Fallon referenced, Trump’s military operation in Venezuela and the airstrike resulted in Maduro’s capture.
Jimmy Fallon 'interviews' Trump during his show and asks questions about the Venezuela strike
On 'The Tonight Show', Jimmy Fallon staged a mock Q&A with Donald Trump about the startling choice to apprehend Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro, calling it a bizarre and unexpected moment in political comedy. In a 1‑minute, 13‑second clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), Fallon uses a prop questionnaire board while playfully posing questions.
Fallon opens with, “President, you just invaded a country and captured its leader. But which country was it again?” poking fun at whether Trump even remembers the nation in question. A snippet from one of Trump’s own remarks answers with “Venezuela?”, which Fallon follows with, “Close enough.”
Next, Fallon asks, “Now, you didn’t get Congressional approval before the strike?”, and uses another clip of Trump saying, “Legal, no, no, no, no, no.”
Fallon then quips, “No? Is it just an attempt to distract everyone from the Epstein files?” and inserts Trump’s response, “Oh yes, yes.” Continuing the sketch, Fallon remarks, “Well, I saw a picture of you during the mission, and you were watching a screen. What exactly were you watching, Stranger Things?” This draws laughter from the audience. Trump’s clip saying “Oh yeah.” follows.
Fallon keeps going with, “I read that the CIA was tracking Maduro’s location if another country was tracking you. Where would they look, Burger King, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s?” and plays Trump’s line, “Okay, of course, of course.”
The host’s next question tries to frame the operation as a message to other global powers: “Now was the attack a warning to other nations, like, say, Saudi Arabia, or Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Russia. Will we repeat you?” Trump’s answer used in the sketch is a simple “yes.”
Finally, Fallon jokes, “You say you want to run to Venezuela? Do you even speak Spanish?” and employs a Trump clip saying, “El hombre Del Peloquin?” Fallon wraps up by saying, “All right. Thank you for your time.”
Late-night hosts react to Trump's Nicolas Maduro capture
Several hosts also responded to the news from Venezuela. On 'The Late Show', Stephen Colbert aimed at Donald Trump’s sudden capture of Nicolas Maduro with a playful remark, “Do you know what this means? Those Epstein files must be crazy.”
JIMMY KIMMEL: "Yes, he's a criminal and a dictator who's driven his country into financial ruin, while he and his family have lined their own pockets, but Maduro is no saint either."
