WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden on Tuesday, June 11, passionately advocated for more steps to reduce gun violence nationwide, contrasting his remarks with the inactivity of legislative Republicans and former President Donald Trump, according to The Hill.

Just hours after a Delaware jury found his son Hunter Biden guilty of three felonies for lying about using illegal drugs to obtain a gun in 2018 and then unlawfully possessing the weapon for 11 days, Biden spoke at Everytown's Gun Sense University in Washington, DC.

Notably, after the President finished his speech, he was scheduled to leave for Delaware.

It was entirely coincidental that the President's address fell on the same day as his son's conviction. In his remarks, Biden did not address his son's situation; instead, he spoke on the efforts he had made during his first term to curb gun violence and the future initiatives he intends to take.

Biden said, "Look, no single action can solve the entirety of the gun violence epidemic. But together, our efforts, your efforts, are saving lives. We can help rally a nation with a sense of urgency and seriousness of purpose. We’re changing the culture. We’ve proven we can do more than just thoughts and prayers."

The President further emphasized the bipartisan Safer Communities Act's enactment in 2022, which improved background checks for gun buyers between the ages of 18 and 21, made it illegal to obtain firearms through trafficking or straw purchases, and defined what constituted a federally licensed firearm dealer.

The audience erupted in applause when he announced the establishment of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. He also mentioned the recently disclosed FBI data that indicated a drop in violent crime in the first part of 2024.

Moreover, Biden doubled down on his call for Congress to enact legislation outlawing assault rifles. In addition, he demanded that all gun transactions undergo background checks and that weapons be kept in secure storage within the home.

He said, "Look, unfortunately…congressional Republicans oppose all of these."

The presumed Republican presidential nominee, Trump, was also chastised by Biden for declaring earlier this year that an Iowa school massacre was 'just horrible…But we have to get over it, we have to move forward.'

Biden said, "Hell no, we don’t have to get over it. We’ve gotta stop it. We’ve gotta stop it and stop it now."

Notably, to refute the widely held Republican claim that violent crime is common in big cities, Biden and his reelection campaign have made a concerted effort to capitalize on the notion that crime has decreased under his administration.
