'Has he been under a rock': Joe Biden mocked as he warns Israel is 'starting to lose global support' over Gaza bombings

WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden delivered an eyebrow-raising rebuke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, cautioning that Israel is losing global support and urging a shift in its conservative government's approach.

The stern criticism comes in the wake of heightened pressure from the US to curb Israel's bombing campaign in Gaza, following the October 7 attack by Hamas.

Calls for change amid escalating tensions

During a closed-door political fundraiser in Washington, DC on Tuesday, December 12, Biden expressed concern about Israel's indiscriminate bombing, CNN reported.

"They're starting to lose that support by indiscriminate bombing that takes place," he said. "I think he has to change, and with this government, this government in Israel is making it very difficult for him to move. Bibi's got a tough decision to make. This is the most conservative government in Israel's history."

Biden accused the Israeli government of not being committed to a long-term two-state solution, highlighting the need for Palestinians to have their own nation.

He stated, "We have an opportunity to begin to unite the region...and they still want to do it. But we have to make sure that Bibi understands that he's got to make some moves to strengthen...you cannot say 'no Palestinian state'...That's going to be the hard part."

The rift between Washington and Tel Aviv coincides with a rising civilian death toll in Gaza as Israeli forces seek out Hamas terrorists. Calls for a ceasefire from Biden's own party and allies further underscore the urgency of the situation.

Social media erupts

Social media reacted strongly to Biden's assertion that Israel is losing global support, with some expressing disbelief and questioning the timing of his statements.

"Starting????? Has he been under a rock?" one posted on X (formerly Twitter).

"I really don't get it, how can a president make so many different statements in such a short time?" another wrote.

"Starting to? Lmao. Biden is so out of touch with reality," someone else offered.

"So, why have you allowed them to continue?" a comment read.

"So maybe the US shouldn’t vote against ceasefire," yet another added.

Netanyahu rejects US plans

Biden's warning came shortly after Netanyahu rejected American plans for the region's future, particularly dismissing any future role for the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority in Gaza.

Netanyahu stated, "There is disagreement about 'the day after Hamas and I hope that we will reach agreement here as well", further revealing the divide between the two allies.

"After the great sacrifice of our civilians and our soldiers, I will not allow the entry into Gaza of those who educate for terrorism, support terrorism, and finance terrorism," he added. "Gaza will be neither Hamastan nor Fatahstan."

The ongoing conflict has taken a devastating toll, with nearly 16,000 Palestinians killed and a significant portion of Gaza's population displaced. The United Nations reported substantial damage, with about 18% of pre-conflict structures in the Gaza Strip either damaged or destroyed.

While Israel justifies its strong response to the October 7 Hamas attack, concerns are mounting over the civilian casualties and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Palestinians face severe shortages of food, water, and basic goods, raising fears of forced displacement.

Biden's remarks also come in the context of a meeting with family members of Americans taken hostage by Hamas. This meeting, scheduled to take place at the White House, marks the first in-person engagement since the Israeli Americans were kidnapped on October 7 during the attacks in Israel.

Biden affirmed the US commitment to Israel, stating, "We're not going to stop until every hostage is returned home."
