Joe Biden trolled as ex-NY Guv David Paterson says debate debacle could pave way for Trump’s presidency
WASHINGTON, DC: As the Democratic Party grapples with the fallout from President Joe Biden’s contentious debate performance and internal debates over his candidacy, former Governor David Paterson has suggested that Donald Trump’s path to the White House is increasingly clear.
Paterson praised Trump for his strategic silence amidst the Democrats’ turmoil, contrasting it with Biden and his team’s attempts to explain away the debate debacle.
“If you notice [last] week, you’ve heard very little from a former president by the name of Donald Trump. When Donald Trump makes a lot of noise and aggravates a lot of people, that’s one thing,” Paterson said Sunday, July 7, on WABC 770 radio’s 'The Cats Roundtable.'
“But I think in this particular case, his silence indicates that, ‘Why say something, when everything‘s going my way and the Democrats are all over themselves?'”
Biden faces calls to step down as Democratic presidential nominee
The 81-year-old Biden’s struggle to maintain confidence in his leadership has led some within the party to question whether he should continue as the nominee.
During the 90-minute televised debate, Biden frequently mumbled, trailed off mid-sentence, and struggled to articulate his points. Trump seized the opportunity to ridicule Biden's occasionally unclear statements. The incumbent frequently stumbled during his responses and, at one instance, paused before stating, "I beat Medicare."
“I really don’t have an opinion, one way or the other as to whether or not [Biden] should drop out of the race. But I just think that this handling [of last week’s debate] was really very poor. I know that the former president is dying to jump on, but he’s smart enough to know not to,” Paterson claimed. “When you’re in trouble. Stop attacking everyone.”
Trump's presidential prospects solidify as Harris trails Biden in polls
He noted that Trump, 78, is currently in a strong position to reclaim the presidency, citing Vice President Kamala Harris' public opinion poll ratings are worse compared to Biden's. He also observed the challenge for any lesser-known candidate to build sufficient momentum in the limited time remaining before the election.
“You’re going to have to go up against Donald Trump who is playing with the house’s money right now. That is going to be a difficult task for President Biden or whomever would come off the bench and take his place,” Paterson added.
Trump's legal woes
Despite Trump's legal troubles, he received a favorable ruling from the US Supreme Court last week, granting presidents immunity for "official acts" potentially impacting ongoing criminal cases. As a result, the sentencing in his Manhattan hush money trial was postponed from July 11 to September.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan stated he would assess how this immunity ruling affects the case by September 6, with sentencing potentially set for September 18 “if such is still necessary.”
Trump, convicted by a Manhattan jury on May 30 for concealing a $130,000 payout to porn star Stormy Daniels to hide alleged details of a sexual encounter from voters before the 2016 presidential election, faces the prospect of up to four years in prison, though alternative outcomes such as probation or community service are also possible.
Netizens voice concerns over Biden's leadership
Internet users express varied concerns, from allegations of concealing Biden's health condition to broader critiques of political integrity and electoral processes.
A social media user commented, "Imagine the people around Biden hiding and shielding his condition, they definitely pit party over country."
A second said, "The entire world has seen for years what a fool Biden is. The media can’t cover it up anymore."
A third claimed, "A blind man can see this coming."
"The Elections have Lost all Integrity… that’s why Biden will never step down…There is no way the Deep State will ever let Trump back into the White House," a fourth added.
"New York legal system will find a way to keep Trump busy and help Joe win. They need another 29 million illegals into the country to help Democrats keep power," read a comment.
