WASHINGTON, DC: Senator John Fetterman, during an interview on Wednesday, May 13, for 'The Reason Interview' with Nick Gillespie, stated, "I trust, you know, the Trump administration and Trump out a hell of a lot more than I would ever trust the Iranians," when asked about the ongoing conflict.
Fetterman emphasized that despite partisan differences, "we are all Americans" and must stand together against foreign adversaries.
John Fetterman warns Democrats against ‘TDS party’
Senator John Fetterman made it clear that he trusts the Trump administration more than any foreign government. He argued that political differences should stop, noting that "they to be be honest, we are all Americans, too. That's what we're that's what we're forgetting."
Fetterman expressed that his trust in the administration far outweighs any confidence he would have in the Chinese, the Russians, or the Iranians.
Fetterman cautioned his party against falling into a cycle of constant opposition, which he labeled "TDS" or Trump Derangement Syndrome.
He stated that "the Democratic Party can't become the TDS party," and warned that "we cannot be defined by the exact opposite and we have to oppose every single kind of a thing."
Fetterman backs Trump on Iran nuclear stance
Fetterman explained that his trust is rooted in a shared strategic goal: stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
"I have similar views on focusing in to prevent Iran becoming a nuclear power. Every single Democrat also agreed with it now too," Fetterman told Gillespie.
While he stands with the administration on this core objective, he admitted that he does not always support the President's personal style or specific online comments.
Fetterman explicitly distanced himself from the way the administration communicates on social media. "That does not mean you agree on every tactic that's happened. I don't appreciate the gamification of the Iranian war," he remarked.
He further noted, "I don't agree with some of these bizarre things that he'll say on social media now too. I don't engage that too."
Despite these criticisms, he maintained that his allegiance remains with the government because "we are the Americans and I'm never going to trust the Iranians."
John Fetterman calls Iran accountability a ‘noble cause’
Fetterman also addressed the role of the international community, arguing that any country using global energy resources has a stake in the war.
"Well, does your country consume oil? Yeah. Well, then that makes it your war," he stated. He criticized foreign nations for showing concern over other conflicts while failing to hold Iran responsible for regional instability, asking, "why can't you just say Iran?"
While concluding his remarks, the senator spoke about the high financial cost of the military engagement. While acknowledging the expense, he framed it as a necessary and moral investment in global stability.
"So, let's talk about the cost. Yeah, it's real expensive for America right now, but that's that's a noble cause to just hold Iran regime accountable for the mass chaos, murder, and and destruction that they've they've underwritten for decades," Fetterman concluded.
