WASHINGTON, DC: Senator John Fetterman, D-Pa, sharply criticized his own party the day after President Donald Trump’s address before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4.

Fetterman took to social media on Wednesday to condemn what he called a "sad cavalcade of self owns and unhinged petulance" from Democrats, warning that the party’s actions were diminishing its impact.

"We’re becoming the metaphorical car alarms that nobody pays attention to—and it may not be the winning message," John Fetterman said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. His comments came in response to the chaotic and at times disruptive behavior from some Democrats during Trump’s speech, Fox News reported.

During the president's joint address, a number of Democratic lawmakers held up signs with messages such as “FALSE,” “SAVE MEDICAID,” “PROTECT VETERANS,” and “MUSK STEALS.” Rep Al Green, D-Texas, was even removed from the chamber after being disruptive.

A few Democrats chose not to attend the speech at all, while others walked out during the event.

Trump took to Truth Social the following day, declaring that “the Democrats should lose the Midterms based on their behavior at last night’s Joint Address to Congress.”

He went on to accuse Democrats of showing disrespect to those honored during the speech, including victims of illegal immigration and terminally ill patients, claiming they “didn’t even have the common courtesy to stand, smile, or applaud.”

Trump suggested that Republicans could use the footage of the Democrats' behavior to help win elections, calling it a "full CAMPAIGN TO VICTORY."

Fetterman also did not hold back in his criticism. In his post, he expressed frustration with the way some members of his party conducted themselves, acknowledging the potential negative impact of their actions.

Fetterman warned that if similar efforts continue, the Democratic Party could lose the ability to resonate with voters.

The senator’s comments highlight the deepening tensions within the Democratic Party, as members continue to debate how best to challenge Trump and the Republican Party going into the 2026 midterm elections.

John Fetterman supports Donald Trump's tough stance on Hamas

John Fetterman also appeared to align with Donald Trump on another issue: the situation in Gaza. Trump issued a stern warning to Hamas on Truth Social, urging them to “release all of the hostages now, not later,” and threatening consequences if they did not comply.

"You can choose. Release all of the Hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is OVER for you," Trump wrote.

"I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say," the president added.

"Free all the hostages or start killing Hamas members again. I fully agree with @POTUS," Fetterman tweeted in support of Trump’s stance.

Fetterman’s support for Trump’s warning to Hamas has been seen as an endorsement of a tough stance on terrorism and violence. The senator's post emphasized his commitment to standing with Israel and advocating for the release of hostages held by Hamas.

As the political landscape continues to shift, Fetterman’s comments underline the growing divide within the Democratic Party over strategy and messaging. His remarks about Democrats becoming "the metaphorical car alarms" were a clear rebuke of the tactics some in his party are using as they attempt to counter Trump's influence.

While Fetterman’s criticism is aimed at his fellow Democrats, his support for Trump on certain international issues shows that political allegiances are not always as straightforward as they might seem.
