WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump claimed during his Tuesday, March 4, speech to Congress that there is "absolutely nothing" he could do to make Democrats applaud him.

He also took an aim at his predecessor, Joe Biden, blaming him for the Justice Department's criminal prosecutions against him.

Donald Trump claims Democrats will never clap for his achievements

During his address, Donald Trump expressed frustration at the lack of applause from Democrats.

"This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud," he said, according to the New York Post.

He continued, "I can find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations, or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history, or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded, and these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements."

Trump has appeared in front of Congress five times, dating back to his first term, and has consistently been met with a cold reception from Democrats. "It’s very sad," he said, adding, "And it just shouldn’t be this way."

Throughout his 100-minute speech, which was the longest in at least 60 years, Donald Trump frequently called out Joe Biden.

He labeled Biden "the worst president in American history" and accused him of using his office to "viciously" prosecute him.

Trump said before asking rhetorically, “How did that work out.”

Democratic Rep Al Green of Texas interrupted Trump at the start of his address by shouting, "You have no mandate to cut Medicaid," referring to a budget resolution backed by Trump that could impact millions who rely on the program.

He also waved his cane at Trump before being expelled from the floor at the request of House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Several Democrats protested during Trump’s speech. More than a half dozen walked out, while others held up signs and wore t-shirts criticizing his return to power.

When Trump called Biden the "worst president in American history," Democrats responded audibly. "Lie after lie after lie after lie," one person said. Another shouted, "Tell the truth," as per Time.

Rep Rashida Tlaib of Michigan held up a whiteboard displaying messages throughout the speech, including "No King." Rep Maxwell Frost of Florida stood up wearing a black t-shirt reading, "No Kings Live Here," before walking off the floor.

Some other signs included, "Start by paying your taxes" and "Musk steals."

Internet reacts to Donald Trump slamming Democrats

Donald Trump’s remarks drew mixed criticism online, with many taking to X to criticize his speech seeking accolades.

"This guy lives for accolades. Pathetic," one person wrote on X.

Another added, "Trump's lies and whining about Democrats not clapping are pathetic. This isn't a rally, it's a disgrace to the office. He’s making up achievements while ignoring real issues."

One more person commented, "'If I could…if I did…' Trouble is, he’s done none of those things. He wants respect he’s never earned."

"Such a sad manboy, needs constant adulation, while deserving almost zero," another user wrote.

"He can resign, that’ll make a lot of us happy," one post read. Another user remarked, "I would call that whining, not criticizing."

Someone else pointed out, "How stupid is he? He knows they're not going to clap for him. Republicans didn't clap for President Biden, and President Biden didn't whine about it!"
