WASHINGTON, DC: President-elect Donald Trump has given his "complete and total endorsement" to Speaker Mike Johnson ahead of a critical House vote scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2025.

Johnson faces challenges within his party as he works to secure enough votes to retain his speakership.

Mike Johnson, who has faced criticism over his handling of issues such as government funding, cannot afford to lose more than one GOP vote in the tight Republican majority.

Trump's public endorsement could prove vital for Johnson's chances of success.



 

"Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social in part.

Following Trump's endorsement, Elon Musk also expressed his support, stating, "I feel the same way! You have my full support."



 

Mike Johnson responds to Donald Trump's endorsement

Mike Johnson responded to the endorsement, expressing gratitude for Donald Trump's backing as he prepares for the vote.

He pledged to deliver results aligned with the former president’s agenda.

"Thank you, President Trump! I’m honored and humbled by your support, as always. Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America," Johnson wrote.



 

"The American people demand and deserve that we waste no time. Let’s get to work!" Johnson wrote in a post on X.

Despite the show of support, Johnson faces opposition within his own party. Rep Thomas Massie has already stated he will not support Johnson, and several hard-line conservatives have also expressed hesitation, The Hill noted.

Internet urges Mike Johnson to make the most out of Donald Trump's endorsement

The endorsement triggered debate online, with some calling it a litmus test for Donald Trump's supporters.

Others still expressed reservations about Trump's decision with some users urging Johnson to honor Trump's endorsement and fulfill his promises.

"This is a good litmus test to see if people who claim to support Trump trust him or not...My dude knows a ton more than we do," one user wrote on X in part.

Another added, "Do right by President Trump don’t let him down or you’re letting down the American people."

Some users issued warnings, with one writing, "Do... the.... right.... thing That's the main takeaway for you, Mike. We are watching. Trump has given you this chance. It's yours to screw up."

Others voiced doubts about Johnson’s track record, including one who stated, "You did not keep your word Mike....several times. You know it...and so do we."
