Journalist Jackie Kucinich questions President Joe Biden's mental acuity, says he won't 'age backwards'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Reporter Jackie Kucinich of CNN stated that questions about President Joe Biden's mental acuity will not go away following a Wall Street Journal article revealing that some legislators and other officials fear the president has become less focused.
"It's not going away," Kucinich said, per Fox News. "He's not going to age backwards." "This isn't Benjamin Button here," she added, referencing the eponymous 2008 movie character who aged in reverse. "This is Joe Biden."
Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Joe Biden's mental ability
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, one of the 45 people the Journal interviewed, provided his impression of Biden's mental ability. "I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house," he said. "He's not the same person."
Jackie Kucinich says Joe Biden's advisors are concerned about his age
Biden's advisors are worried that his age will be a problem for his presidential campaign, according to Kucinich. She cited rumors that the White House had contacted lawmakers to request a follow-up phone call regarding the statements made by the outlet.
"You don't keep tabs on Democrats that The Wall Street Journal is interviewing and then have them circle back to highlight Biden's strength if … you don't think this is a vulnerability," Kucinich said. "All [the Biden campaign] can do is present him in as strong of a position as they can."
First debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump will be critical, says Jackie Kucinich
Kucinich added that persuading voters on Biden's mental fitness will depend heavily on the outcome of the first debate between former President Donald Trump and Joe Biden, which is set for June 27 on CNN.
81-year-old Joe Biden is the oldest president to date. He has encountered doubts about his capacity to carry out his duties from Republican lawmakers and voters, particularly as he faces off against Trump in November presidential race.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a number of Republicans and even some Democrats, as well as administration officials, claimed the President appeared older in private meetings.
Five people familiar with the meeting told the Journal that during Biden's meeting with congressional leaders in January to negotiate an agreement to send more funding to Ukraine, at times he spoke so softly that some could barely hear him. He also stopped and closed his eyes for long stretches of time, and he used notes to emphasize clear points.
Internet is worried about Joe Biden's age
Netizens expressed concern over Biden's credibility as president due to his age.
One X user wrote, "His age concerns mum? He could have dementia he could die in office. He can’t govern."
Another asked, "What would it take for Democrats to come to grips with Biden's clear descent into senility? Does he have to do a presser in his underwear? Or go missing, to be found wandering around a grocery store?"
"His age isn’t a factor. It’s his mental acuity that everyone is worried about," opined one while a user added, "Dementia Joe has Got to GO…!!!"
"Of course they’re not going away… They’re getting worse, just people are waking up to it!" tweeted a user.
