WASHINGTON, DC: Liberal singer John Legend has sparked controversy by attributing the shift of Black and Latino voters towards former President Donald Trump to "disinformation" and perceptions of "masculinity."

During an interview on 'Pod Save America' on Tuesday, May 28, Legend discussed recent polls showing Trump's increased support among younger Black voters against President Joe Biden.

John Legend argues President Biden isn't getting credit for economic recovery

"I do think Trump performs a form of masculinity that is appealing to some men," Legend said, addressing, "That may explain the uptick. I hear a lot of misinformation and disinformation about the economy under Trump and what's happened since. To be clear, the economy is doing quite well," 'All of Me' singer said, citing low unemployment and manufacturing jobs coming back to the United States.

"If you are informed about that, and you objectively are observing what's going on with the economy, you would say actually, Biden is really great for the economy. He's great for men in the economy because he’s bringing back these jobs that men often do," Legend told co-host and former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau.

Despite Biden's efforts, Legend believes the president isn't receiving due credit for his "amazing accomplishments" in guiding the economic recovery post-pandemic. He criticized Trump, asserting that a return to Trump’s policies would mean rolling back green initiatives and providing tax cuts to billionaires. "If you care about either of those issues, like, no way, do not vote for him," Legend added.

Biden-Harris campaign launches 'Black Voters for Biden-Harris'

A Fox News survey released in May shows Biden receiving 72% support among Black voters, a decline from the 79% he garnered before the 2020 election. In several swing states, Black voters have expressed dissatisfaction with the economy, and some plan to vote for Trump despite reservations about his personality.

In response to these concerns, the Biden-Harris campaign has renewed its efforts to regain support from this critical voting demographic. A new initiative, the 'Black Voters for Biden-Harris' campaign, aims to engage Black student organizations, community groups, and faith centers nationwide and in key battleground states as the president seeks to bolster support for his re-election.

Netizens react to John Legend's stance on Black voter support

A user tweeted, "It is easy for the rich to not see a problem with the economy, they can afford everything, no matter the price. But to tell people what they are living, that it is "disinformation", is low."

Another said, "Must be nice not having to worry about money. Allows you to live in an alternate universe apparently."

A third said, "John Legend doesn’t shop for his own groceries or care about the cost of gas."

"Ignorance squared!" stated a user. "Lol … John… just sing man," mocked another.

"Theres no disinformation on the economy. People can see and feel the failure," remarked a user.

"Tell John Legend to find his masculinity. Unreal!" read a tweet.
