In an interview with a British magazine, Timberlake opened up about his partying, excessive drinking, and drug use nearly 18 years before he was handcuffed in the Hamptons and charged with drunk driving.

In a 2006 interview with the British magazine Observer Music Monthly, Timberlake said, "I’ve done way too many drugs already. I’ve already inhaled and I’ve already … who knows?" per Today.

"What I really think is that I’ve never done anything that bad," he stated to the Observer Music Monthly. "I don’t show up drunk to functions; the drugs that I do have been in my own private time. I’ve never been arrested — though that’s not to say that I won’t."

Timberlake further admitted having been afoul of "women, drugs and debauchery" and added that he had been "caught in places with my pants down" and had taken his "fair share of drugs."

When the 'Mirrors' hitmaker was questioned about his drug use, he responded: "I'm just like everyone else, I get completely plastered, I've done my fair share of drugs and I've been caught places with my pants down. It's just I make sure there are no cameras around."

"I'll leave the preaching to the preachers - my grandfather's a preacher - but I believe you don't do anything to excess," the singer further added.

"They always say too much of a good thing could be a bad thing. I try to live my life in a well-rounded manner. We all make mistakes," per The US Sun.

Justin Timberlake allegedly battled 'real drinking problem' for years

On Tuesday, June 18, a music insider revealed to Page Six that Timberlake has long had "a real drinking problem."

"It’s not a secret. Everyone knows. He has a real drinking problem, a lot of weed — but a major alcohol problem, and he’s been hiding and masking it for years," a music source spilled.

According to sources cited by Daily Mail, Timberlake's drinking increased recently as he attempted to deal with criticism following revelations made about him by his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears in her 2023 memoir, 'The Woman in Me.'

During the 2023 Oprah's Master Class premiere, the 'Mirrors' singer opened up about binge drinking again.

He acknowledged that at one point in his life, while attempting to manage the demands of celebrity, he abused alcohol, per The Sun.

Timberlake was cited with driving while intoxicated after leaving dinner with pals at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, Long Island, shortly after midnight, raising the appearance of his supposed secret.

According to a Page Six initial source, Timberlake's reported drinking habit "got to him" and "everyone around him have been enablers."

"It’s a real thing, and when you have a drinking problem, it’s apparent, yet they’ve pushed this tour on him, and he’s been a very dark place," the insider added.

A different source claimed that Timberlake had given up alcohol sometime before his DWI arrest on Tuesday. He even claimed to have lost weight and been leading a healthy lifestyle, which included giving up alcohol before the start of his 'Forget Tomorrow World Tour.'

Timberlake claimed that having supportive people around him, such as his wife Jessica Biel, enabled him to get through that difficult period in his life.
