OTTAWA, CANADA: Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced flak from people online for his unorthodox outfit choice while meeting King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Tuesday, May 27.

The former Canadian PM joined the British royals at the Ottawa Senate building for the opening of the new session of parliament, according to the Daily Mail.

During his meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla, Trudeau donned a blue suit, but he wore it with some bright green and red Adidas Gazelle sneakers.

This was quite a unique and bizarre combination, considering he was meeting the royals for an official event, rather than a casual gathering.

Notably, Trudeau was accompanied by his mother, Margaret Trudeau, and he seemed in great spirits, per the outlet.

Meanwhile, the royals were escorted in a horse-drawn landau and met by a royal salute from a 100-strong Guard of Honor before they headed in.

Canada PM Mark Carney had invited King Charles to formally open the new session of parliament in what is being interpreted as a sign from Canada that its sovereignty is not for sale, per the outlet.

Moreover, it is the highlight of the couple's visit to the North American nation, and Charles' first as king.

Meanwhile, Trudeau announced his retirement in January. He had become unpopular in recent years due to different issues such as the soaring cost of food and housing, and surging immigration.
