NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris pushed back against Fox News host Bret Baier, who repeatedly interrupted her while she discussed illegal immigration during an interview.

Bret Baier challenged the vice president during the interview, addressing a range of topics frequently emphasized by former President Donald Trump on the campaign trail, according to Daily Beast.

Kamala Harris defends administration amid border security questions

As the interview started, Bret Baier asked Kamala Harris, "How many illegal immigrants would you estimate your administration has released into the country over the last three and a half years?"

As Harris started to respond, Baier interrupted her, stating, "It's a rough estimate that 6 million people have been released into the country."

An irritated Harris gave back to Baier and said, "Let me just finish and I will get to the question, I promise you. I was beginning to answer."

Harris shifted the blame to rival Trump for the failure of the bipartisan border security bill that was defeated in Congress in May 2024.

Baier also asked Harris about the deaths of Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and Laken Riley, three murder victims whose suspected killers entered the country during Biden's presidency.

Baier then played a video of Nungaray’s mother blaming the Biden-Harris administration for her daughter's death. When asked if she owed an apology to their families, the vice president responded, "I'm so sorry for her loss. I'm so sorry for her loss. Sincerely."

Bret Baier questions Kamala Harris about policy on gender-affirming surgery for federal prisoners

During the interview, Bret Baier questioned Kamala Harris about her policy on gender-affirming surgery for federal prisoners and played a Trump campaign ad that claimed she supported "taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners," according to the outlet.

Harris went on to accuse Trump's campaign of throwing stones in glass houses and added that the policy had been in place during the Trump administration.

She said, "I will follow the law. And it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed. You’re probably familiar with, now it’s a public report that under Donald Trump’s administration, these surgeries were available on a medical necessity basis to people in the federal prison system."

Baier added that the Trump campaign denies any gender confirmation surgeries that took place during his presidency.

Additionally, in 2022, a judge's order paved the way for the first federal prisoner to receive gender-affirming surgery following a four-year legal battle.

Meanwhile, Harris avoided answering whether she would continue to support funding for transgender care for federal prisoners but accused the Trump campaign of fixating on an issue that is "really quite remote."

Kamala Harris challenges Donald Trump's remarks on 'enemy within' during interview

As the interview progressed, Kamala Harris addressed Donald Trump's recent remarks about using the military against Democrats, whom he referred to as "the enemy within." She stated, "Oh God, I would never say that about the American people."

Following her statement, Baier played a video of Trump at a town hall event where he dismissed the criticism, accusing Democrats of threatening him with "phony investigations" and the "weaponization of government."

After the video ended, Harris responded, "Bret, I’m sorry, that is not what he has been saying about the ‘enemy within’ that he has repeated when speaking about the American people. That’s not what you just showed."

She added, "Here’s the bottom line, he has repeated it many times. You and I both know that and you and I both know that he has talked about turning the American military on the American people."

She also mentioned, "He has talked about going after people who are engaged in peaceful protests. He has talked about locking people up because they disagree with him."
