WASHINGTON, DC: Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, has delivered a striking rebuttal after a video resurfaced from 2021 featuring JD Vance, the Ohio Senate candidate, making controversial remarks about Harris.

Vance made the comments during an appearance on Fox News' 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' labeling Harris as a 'childless' cat lady

“We are effectively run in this country… by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too,” Vance said. “It’s just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez], the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.”

Kamala Harris' family defends against childless claims

Ella Emhoff, 25, didn’t hold back when the video gained traction again. She humorously questioned JD Vance's characterization on her Instagram Story, asking, “How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I 🤔.” Her retort quickly went viral, drawing support from many who appreciated her defense of her stepmother.

Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of Doug Emhoff, also stepped in to defend Harris. She condemned the attacks on Harris’ lack of biological children as “baseless” and praised Harris for her role as a co-parent to her and Doug's children, Cole, 30, and Ella, 25.

“These are baseless attacks. For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I,” Kerstin Emhoff said in a statement to CNN. “She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”

Doug Emhoff and Kerstin Emhoff were married in 1992 and divorced in 2008 after 16 years together. Doug met Kamala Harris in 2013, and they married a year later in 2014. Harris has spoken warmly of her relationship with her stepchildren, who affectionately call her 'Momala', and maintains a close friendship with Kerstin.

Public reactions highlight support for Kamala Harris' family

The public has rallied in support of Vice President Kamala Harris and her family following Ella Emhoff’s viral rebuttal to JD Vance’s “childless” remark. Internet users have expressed admiration for the Emhoff-Harris family’s unity and strength, with many highlighting the positive example they set for blended families.

A social media user tweeted, "I am loving this family more by the minute."

Another said, "I love that his ex-wife chimed in..I love family unity. Children are so blessed when they have so much love from so many nurturing them in life from good, kind, and caring people raising them."

One user claimed, "I’m voting for sure."

"Millions of stepmothers like me that love and raise other peoples children should be heralded not punished," asserted an individual.

"Glad her family is supporting her, but even if she had no family at all, that would have zero bearing on her ability to be president," read a tweet.

"This brought tears to my eyes," penned an individual.

"Blended families don’t count to Republicans," mocked an individual.
