WASHINGTON, DC: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to a report regarding a meeting of congressional Republicans where they were instructed to refrain from using racist and sexist language when discussing Vice President Kamala Harris.

Harris became the presumptive nominee after President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid on July 21. When Harris is formally nominated next month, she will become the first Black woman to be nominated for US president by a major political party.

Karine Jean-Pierre calls racist and misogynist attacks on Kamala Harris 'disgusting'

No sooner than Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee, Republicans launched a volley of attacks on the Vice President, with a House Republican calling her a "DEI hire".

Recognizing that some members of his party might benefit from sensitivity training, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) held a private meeting on Tuesday, July 23, advising them to focus on real issues, Mediaite reported.

“This election will be about policies and not personalities,” he told reporters later. “This is not personal with regard to Kamala Harris and her ethnicity or her gender have nothing to do with this whatsoever.”

During a press briefing on Thursday, July 25, Karine Jean-Pierre was questioned about the report.

She replied, "When you have the speaker of the House – obviously a Republican and this is something you all have reported – set up a meeting to tell Republican leaders to stop being racist, to stop being misogynist, to stop being sexist, I think that says a lot that they have to be told to not do that."

"But more broadly, I think it’s, I think it’s desperate. I think it’s disgusting and I think it’s a dog whistle. And we should not forget that she is the Vice President of the United States," she further added.

Jean-Pierre continued, "She’s the Vice President of the United States. She should get that respect. She’s been doing this job with the President for almost four years."

"She’s a former senator and has been a critical partner in getting the economy restarted and making sure that we deal with the pandemic. And to hear that is frankly disgusting," she concluded.

Internet reacts to Republicans' attacks on Kamala Harris

Republicans drew backlash online for their continuous digs at Kamala Harris and calling her a "DEI hire".

One person wrote, "Like children, Republicans have to be told how to act politely in the world around them."

Another user added, "That is all they ever do. They are full of hate"

The third commentator wrote, "They won’t be able to stop."

"You know that the GOP is vile & disgusting when they need to be told not to be vile & disgusting racists & sexxists," a person remarked.

Other mocked, "Asking republicans to stop being racist is like asking fish to not swim."

A reader claimed, "Trump is the head racist and misogynist"
