WASHINGTON, DC: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sharply rebuked House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Friday, October 17.

This came after Jeffries launched a barrage of personal insults during a press conference, calling her “sick,” “demented,” “ignorant,” and a “stone-cold liar.” His remarks followed his broader condemnation of Republican criticism of Democrats.

Karoline Leavitt fired back at Hakeem Jeffries and the Democratic Party in a strongly worded statement to Fox News Digital, accusing them of deflecting from uncomfortable truths.

“Hakeem and Democrats are lashing out because they know what I said is true,” Leavitt said. “The Democrat Party’s elected officials absolutely cater to pro-Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals.”

She pointed out, “House Democrats voted against a resolution condemning Hamas following the horrific October 7 terrorist attacks, and Democrats cheered on pro-Hamas radicals while they hijacked America’s college campuses and harassed Jewish students.”

Leavitt also blamed Democrats for what she described as a failed border policy, claiming they “opened our borders and allowed tens of millions of illegal aliens into our country over the past four years, including rapists and murderers, because they view them as future voters."

Criticizing progressive criminal justice policies, she added, “Democrats coddle violent criminals and support soft-on-crime policies like cashless bail that let violent offenders back on the streets to hurt law-abiding citizens.”

Turning her focus back to Jeffries, Leavitt slammed Democrats for stalling the GOP’s federal funding bill and questioned their priorities.

“Democrats do not serve the interests of the American people. Hakeem Jeffries is an America Last, stone-cold loser. Now open up the government and stop simping to try to get your radical left-wing base to like you,” she said.

Hakeem Jeffries launched a sweeping attack on Republicans for their criticism of Democrats, then directly targeted White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a press conference.

“And then you’ve got Karoline Leavitt, who’s sick. She’s out of control,” Jeffries said. “And I’m not sure whether she’s just demented, ignorant, a stone-cold liar, or all of the above.”

“But the notion that an official White House spokesperson would say that the Democratic Party consists of terrorists, violent criminals, and undocumented immigrants makes no sense. This is what the American people are getting from the Trump administration in the middle of a shutdown.”

Jeffries continued, accusing Republicans of revealing their true priorities through their actions. “Their actions continue to speak for themselves, which is why they’re on the wrong side of public sentiment,” he said.

Democrats block GOP bill, seek healthcare deal

As the shutdown drags into its fourth week, tensions continue to escalate on Capitol Hill. On Thursday, October 16, Senate Democrats blocked the GOP’s proposed federal funding bill for the tenth time before adjourning and leaving Washington for the weekend.

Last month, Republicans introduced a short-term funding measure — a continuing resolution — to extend fiscal year 2025 spending levels by seven weeks. The goal was to buy time for negotiators to craft a long-term deal for fiscal year 2026.

However, Democrats in both chambers pushed back, expressing outrage over being excluded from the negotiations. Most Democrats have refused to support any agreement that does not include significant healthcare provisions, particularly an extension of the COVID-era Obamacare subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of the year.
