Kevin Hart names Oprah Winfrey as one celeb who should never be roasted: 'You can't do it, no shot'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Hart has revealed the name of a celebrity he believes should never be roasted.
The comedian, who was recently the subject of a brutal celebrity roast on a live Netflix special, made the revelation during an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' on Wednesday, June 4.
Kevin Hart picks next celebrity roast target
Hart and Kimmel were discussing who should be roasted next following the May 10 special, which featured comedians including Shane Gillis, Jeff Ross, Chelsea Handler, Katt Williams, Tony Hinchcliffe, Pete Davidson, Regina Hall, Sheryl Underwood, Na'im Lynn, and Big Jay Oakerson.
Dwayne ' The Rock' Johnson and Tom Brady also appeared as special guests. The 46-year-old actor suggested that LeBron James could be the next subject of a celebrity roast.
Kevin Hart opposes Oprah Winfrey roast
When Kimmel mentioned Oprah Winfrey and asked for his opinion, Hart replied, “That’d be like spray painting the Sistine Chapel. If I found out that Oprah said she wanted to do it, I’m driving 100 miles per hour to Oprah’s house. You cannot do this. No shot.”
'The Roast of Kevin Hart' generated considerable controversy, with some viewers accusing it of being racist or otherwise offensive. One of the jokes that drew significant criticism referenced George Floyd, who was killed by police in 2020.
Kevin Hart blindsided by The Rock
Hart told Kimmel that he was not offended by any of the jokes directed at him. However, he admitted that Johnson's joke about his father “caught me off guard.”
“Dwayne had the picture of my father, and he had a mug shot of my dad, and he goes, ‘Look at my dad. Kev, we both love our dads.’ And he had a picture of his dad in shape, you know, coming from the gym. He's like, ‘Look at my dad. He's a tank,’” he shared.
The actor continued, “And then he goes, ‘Look at Kevin's dad.’ And it was the worst picture of my father I've ever seen. The worst picture of my father. It caught me off guard, but it was funny.”
Kevin Hart says roasting requires real talent
Elsewhere in the interview, Hart emphasized the importance of celebrity roasts.
“It's an actual talent within the idea of roast that comedians have to have to make this work. Well, I think the beauty of any roast is the roastee being game for whatever is going to happen,” he stated.
Adding further, Hart explained, “Sometimes they sit in that chair and don't really understand what comes with that chair. When you sit in that chair, it's like, ‘OK, have at it. Like, go have a good time.’ Right?”
