Taylor Swift makes surprise cameo with Mariska Hargitay in ‘Law & Order: SVU’ spoof at 78th Emmys
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Taylor Swift unexpectedly made a cameo at the 2026 Emmy Awards alongside her friend Mariska Hargitay in a pre-taped sketch spoofing 'Law & Order: SVU', in which Hargitay stars as Olivia Benson.
Swift, a longtime fan of the show who even named one of her cats after Hargitay’s character, joined her and several of her SVU co-stars for the sketch.

Taylor Swift joins Mariska Hargitay in ‘Law & Order: SVU’ spoof
The sketch centered on whether Swift would attend the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards that night, with Hargitay embodying her role as Olivia Benson, which she has played for 27 seasons on the NBC crime drama.
Hargitay and her SVU co-stars, including rapper-turned-actor Ice-T as Sgt Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, gathered around elaborate evidence boards covered with pushpins and strings as they attempted to connect the night’s nominated television shows to Swift’s musical universe.
For the bit, Hargitay brought out two giant corkboards and tried to make connections between various Emmy nominees and Swift’s catalog of hit songs.
Swift then appeared wearing a detective suit and playing a squad rookie. After Ice-T allowed the “rookie” to speak, Swift said the answer might be hiding in plain sight and offered four clues: “Saccharide. Aries. From the Vineyard. North or South.”
She then acknowledged her reputation for delivering Easter eggs and clues about her music before concluding that her category had come up during the first two nights of the Emmys the previous weekend. She also questioned why she would attend Monday’s event.

Taylor Swift’s Emmy nominations and next awards show appearance
The sketch eventually revealed the real reason Swift would not be attending the ceremony. Her husband, Travis Kelce, and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates were playing the Denver Broncos at the exact same time on Monday Night Football.
“OK then she’s not gonna be there, ’cause her husband’s got a work thing,” Aime Donna Kelly, who plays Captain Renee Curry, said. That turned out to be the correct answer, as Swift was later seen sharing a suite with Tom Cruise at the Chiefs’ home opening game on Monday night.
'The Eras Tour' and 'The Final Show' received five Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special, directing, editing, sound mixing, and technical direction/camerawork. Swift was personally nominated as a producer and performer.
She previously won an Emmy for interactive media in 2015. Her next major award show appearance will be at the 2026 Country Music Awards, where her 'Toy Story 5' song 'I Knew It, I Knew You' was nominated. It will be her first appearance at the ceremony in 10 years.
