NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was present as a guest on the Sunday, April 21 episode of 'MediaBuzz' to discuss former President Donald Trump's New York hush money trial, and the state of disarray among House Republicans, with host Howard Kurtz.

According to Mediaite, McCarthy was opposed by the host when he seemingly suggested that incumbent Joe Biden should personally "meddle with the justice system” to postpone the trial for his predecessor until after the 2024 presidential election scheduled for November.

What does Kevin McCarthy want Biden to do?

Speaking of Trump's trial, whose opening arguments are set to be heard on Monday, April 22, McCarthy told Kurtz, "I think fairness is a word that’s probably a really powerful word in America. Is it really fair that the nominee for one party is now within, is in a trial this close to a presidency? Also is it actually fair to the voters…?"

"Why wouldn’t Joe Biden, caring about the voters say, 'You know what? This is wrong. If I had nothing to do with this, they should not have this trial right now so the American people could actually spend time on what the issues are.' That would be the real issue for Biden to take," he said.

The statement took Kurtz by surprise, who sought to clarify whether McCarthy wanted Biden involved, or "meddle with the justice system, just in favor of Donald Trump?"

"No! I want his opinion to be fair. I want his opinion to look for the American people in fairness. Who in America thinks it’s right that if Joe Biden was on trial right now beforehand, or that President Trump? And really, they’ve already looked at this issue how many times? ..." responded McCarthy.

The host noted that many had "passed on bringing those charges," to which Republican added, "Yeah! The feds already looked at it. And who do they, but, think about it, their number one witness has proven to be a liar in the process. Cohen, the attorney."

Internet reacts to the McCarthy interview

While the discussion concluded with Kurtz and McCarthy waiting over Trump's testimony, netizens were quick to share their opinion on the comment section of the Mediaite article.

"Trump has only himself to thank for his current legal quagmire. His self-serving decision to become a candidate has no bearing on anything," wrote a reader, adding, "Voters deserve to know the outcome of his trials before they cast ballots."

"Every single criminal and civil trial - past, present and future - is because of a choice Trump made. Every single one," stated another.

"All he had to do was keep his pants zipped," jibed a third.

"All he had to do was to write a check from a personal account," chided a fourth.

"The reason for the timing of this and all the Trump trials is quite simply the result of Donnie's endless attempts at delay. They should have all been through the system years ago," commented a fifth reader.
