NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a public display of family confict, Mary Trump, the outspoken niece of former President Donald Trump, has found herself at the center of a social media firestorm after mocking her uncle's apparent drowsiness during his high-profile criminal trial.

Reports of Donald nodding off during proceedings have circulated, prompting Mary's candid remarks on a SiriusXM radio show, during which she also humorously speculated about her uncle's potential narcolepsy, as reported by Daily Mail.

The controversy erupted when Mary appeared on SiriusXM's 'The Dean Obeidallah Show' on Saturday, April 20, where she couldn't resist taking a jab at her uncle's reported nodding off during jury selection in his hush money criminal trial in New York City.

"I think we can't underestimate the extent of the depth of the narcissistic injury he's suffering," she quipped, suggesting the trial's gravity was likely weighing heavily on the former president.

Fueling the flames, Mary added, "Trust me, he understands how serious this is." Joking about being "a little sleepy" herself, she mentioned the possibility of narcolepsy in the Trump clan, saying, "I’m a little worried that narcolepsy runs in the family."

Her remarks came in response to multiple reports that Donald seemed tired and was seen dozing off in his chair during the proceedings, prompting his legal team to strongly deny the claims, asserting his closed eyes were simply a result of his extensive reading habits.

Donald Trump is first former American president to be involved in criminal trial

Mary wrapped up her remarks by suggesting that the trial is likely something Donald has "probably been dreading for the last five and a half decades. So part of him was probably always terrified that it was going to come, but also, he probably never believed it would because he always gets away with everything."

The historic hush money trial commenced on Monday, April 15, representing the first criminal trial involving a former American president. Facing 34 counts of falsifying business records, the ex-president stands accused in connection with reimbursements to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, according to The Hill.

These payments were allegedly made to silence adult film actress, Stormy Daniels, who claimed to have had an affair with Trump before the 2016 election—an allegation he denies.

Internet slams Mary Trump for her jabs at uncle Donald Trump's dozing off during criminal trial

Mary's jabs at Uncle Donald for dozing off during his criminal trial proceedings did not sit well with internet users, with many swiftly condemning her. On X, one user remarked, "This woman is running the biggest grift ever and you people just eat it up!"

Another echoed this sentiment, stating, "There is something pathetic about anyone who uses another’s difficulties to secure their proverbial 15 minutes of fame." A third user commented, "Let's see how Mary is doing in 20 years."

Meanwhile, someone else opined, "Trump made the trump name famous, and she feeds off it. Every family has one.."

Turning to Facebook, the criticism continued, with one user suggesting, "She needs to crawl back into the hole she came out of." Another user stated, "Mary Trump, a flailing, narcissist, attention-seeking nobody."

A final user criticized Mary's choice of words, stating, "Mary seems like a childish bully. Narcolepsy is a health condition that cannot be controlled by the individuals suffering."
