LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mary Trump is standing firm in her critique of Jon Stewart's recent monologue on 'The Daily Show', where he commented on the age of both front-runners in the 2024 Presidential Election, Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

According to HuffPost, In her Substack post, Mary Trump contends that Stewart "took a swing" at her and "missed," emphasizing that she called out the potential dangers of Stewart's "both sides are the same" rhetoric.

Mary Trump warns against Jon Stewart's commentary

Mary Trump, known for her vocal opposition to the potential reelection of her uncle, Donald Trump, argues that Stewart's commentary could lead to voter apathy, especially in a crucial election year where the threat to democracy is palpable.

She asserts that such views are unacceptable when one side poses a threat to democracy, while the other aims to strengthen it.

“I criticized him for erroneously elevating my uncle by claiming, ‘We’re not suggesting neither man is vibrant, productive, or even capable,’” she added. “Any honest, objective person knows this is completely false ... [and] the kind of both-sides-isms I was calling out.”

“I find it dangerous,” Mary Trump continued, “coming from an incredibly influential public figure, because it leads to voter apathy, which is unacceptable in an election year when … one side threatens to eliminate our democracy and the ... other … seeks to strengthen it.”

Mary Trump challenges Stewart's humor

Mary Trump rebuts Stewart's approach, calling it unfunny and warning against the potential disaster for democracy that such rhetoric might bring.

In response to Mary Trump's criticism, Stewart defended his stance on Monday's episode, suggesting that liberals historically handle critiques to power better. He dismissed concerns about his commentary with humor, stating, "I guess as the famous saying goes, 'Democracy dies in discussion.'"

Mary Trump, unyielding in her position, expressed surprise at being "living rent-free" in Stewart's head and questioned his need to respond to her critique. She accused Stewart of pretending that her objection was merely about him commenting, highlighting the mischaracterization of her point and downplaying his influence on voters.

Stewart's age remarks spark bipartisan debate

Stewart's remarks on Biden's age have drawn attention from both sides of the political spectrum, providing fodder for Republican critics while also addressing concerns about mental fitness raised in a special counsel report.

Stewart contends that voters have the right to express concerns and criticisms, placing the responsibility on the candidates to address these worries rather than expecting voters to remain silent.

“What’s crazy is thinking that we are the ones, as voters, who must silence concerns and criticisms. It is the candidate’s job to assuage concerns, not the voter’s job not to mention them.”

Social Media reaction to Mary Trump's critique and Jon Stewart's response

Twitter users express a range of opinions on the ongoing dispute between Mary Trump and Jon Stewart.

One user wrote, "No one is more grateful to carry that last name than Mary. She's made a fortune doing nothing but screaming about a family member she's had no contact with in half a century."

Another added, "She’s a grifter like the rest of the family,"

One replied, "Stewart again showed his arrogance and privilege by mocking valid criticism of his bOtHsiDeS take. Good for Mary."

One commented, "I'll say this: I listened to Stewart's bit & I thought it was pretty reasonable w/one exception: I had MAJOR issue w/him saying that whatever way it went, we'd be fine. I get he was trying to calm people but it spoke of his immense privilege as a white, hetero male of means."
