WASHINGTON, DC: Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy described Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene as a "serious legislator" amid her looming threat to call for a vote to remove Speaker Mike Johnson, The Hill reported.

Speaking on Fox News' 'One Nation' on Saturday, April 6, the former GOP congressman indicated the difference between the motion Greene filed to oust Johnson from the speakership and the motion Rep Matt Gaetz filed last year, causing his removal from the chair in October 2023.

Greene's motion, which was filed in March, could not demand an immediate vote since it was not a privileged resolution.

“What she’s doing is much different than what Matt Gaetz did. She didn’t make it privileged, so it’s not up for a vote,” McCarthy said. "And the one thing I’ve always found about Marjorie is she’s a very serious legislator that deals with policy. And the best way to deal with anyone like that is sit down and talk to them.”

Johnson won the speakership in October last year, immediately after McCarthy was removed.

Congressional leaders announced Tuesday they had reached a deal on a FY2024 spending package that includes budgets for about three-quarters of all federal discretionary spending, including Defense, Homeland Security, Labor-Health and Human Services, and other bills. Kevin McCarthy advises Mike Johnson and MTG to discuss policy issues

McCarthy, an ally of Greene during his tenure, suggested that Greene would adopt a more reasonable position if Johnson and she could discuss the policy issues together.

“I don’t believe the Speaker has spoken to Marjorie. I think if you sit down and discuss, you will understand you have Congress that you don’t control all. You have to find common ground in between, and that can be done. Those are two conservatives; they can do it,” the former speaker claimed.

It remains unclear if both have had a conversation despite Johnson recently indicating he had plans to talk with the Georgia lawmaker in early April.

Greene's disagreement with the speaker faced a final blow after he joined Democrats to pass the $1.2 trillion funding bill to avert a government shutdown in late March. She threatened to force the vote to oust him if he agreed to pass the pending Ukraine aid bill when the House returns this week after recess.

Internet slams Kevin McCarthy

Disagreeing with McCarthy's depiction of Greene as a "serious legislator," netizens fumed at the former at the former speaker.

One user labeled the ex-speaker's remarks "Absolute nonsense."

"A serious legislator? she just said an earthquake and an eclipse were signs from an imaginary being and blamed jewish space lasers for California wildfires... i don't think McCarthy knows what the word serious means," another remarked, referring to some of Greene's recent remarks.

A third user added, "Nice lie. She spends all her time on conservative talk shows screaming about whatever makes her mad." Meanwhile, someone else asked, "What planet is he on?"

"The guy's a loser. Just let him walk off into the sunset," an individual slammed McCarthy. Whereas a fifth user argued, "If the former Speaker truly considers her a 'very serious legislator' this country’s in more trouble than I thought."

A user voiced disagreement, writing, "A serious and professional politician wouldn't use foul language, behave rudely, or disrespect others," and another remark read, "I have seen some spineless cowardly politicians in my day but none of them hold a candle to McCarthy."

"Placing any expectations from K. McCarthy is a waste of time. He’s useless Witnessing McCarthy’s bid for speaker and his inability to hold on to it tells us everything we need to know about McCarthy," another user wrote.
