WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Don Bacon stated on Sunday, March 31, 2024, that if Mike Johnson attempts to bring a bill assisting Ukraine to the floor, he might "possibly" lose his position as House Speaker, USA Today reported.

During an interview on NBC’s 'Meet the Press' with Kristen Welker, Bacon said, "It’s possible. I’m not going to deny it. We have one or two people that are not team - they’re not team players. They’d rather enjoy the limelight, the social media."

Don Bacon says Mike Johnson could lose speakership over Ukraine aid

Bacon made the remarks following Mike Johnson's announcement at a March press conference that he will discuss Ukraine aid when the House reconvenes in April, as reported by Reuters.

If Johnson pushes a dormant $95 billion Senate measure to support Israel, Ukraine, and other US friends, some House Democrats told the source they might prevent Johnson from being removed.

However, some extreme conservatives, including Georgia Representative Majorie Taylor Greene, have rejected these initiatives for aid to Ukraine.

Notably, Representative Mike Gallagher, a Republican from Wisconsin, announced that he was leaving Congress, leaving House Republicans with an already precarious majority of only one vote.

Bacon added, "It’s a very narrow majority. And one or two people can make us a minority. And I got the view, you work with a team. I don’t have to get 100%. 80% as the Ronald Reagan rule, but…we have some people that if they don’t get 100% they want to bring the House down, and it makes us dysfunctional."

Internet divided over Don Bacon's statement

Many people on the internet shared their views after Don Bacon's statement about Mike Johnson's attempts to bring a bill assisting Ukraine to the floor.

A user wrote on X, "Believe nothing Bacon says. He is protecting his seat," while one social media user added, "True. Trump said it’s all fake. Nothing going on, Ukraine is giving Russia so many terrorism. Putin will have to put the Ukraine down."

One person also stated, "Weasel @SpeakerJohnson should lose his seat in the House! And so should Bacon. They need to be replaced with MAGA!" while another said, "We don’t have any money! How f*****g hard is this? Stop putting us in more debt."

One person also wrote, "A discharge petition is another way to bring legislation to a bipartisan floor vote WITHOUT participation of the Speaker of the House."
