MIAMI, FLORIDA: Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon claimed that she knows for a fact that President Donald Trump is already executing his plans to try not to leave the president’s office even after January 20, 2029.
Notably, Trump cannot become president a third time, as the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution strictly limits an individual to serving a maximum of two terms as president.
Democrat claims Trump won't leave after 2028
Democratic candidate Angie Nixon’s comment surfaced in a preview clip from an upcoming interview with MeidasTouch’s Scott MacFarlane, which the journalist posted on Friday, September 11.
“This guy is laying out his plan,” Nixon stressed.
Nixon said Trump is already laying the groundwork to remain in power after 2028.
She claimed Trump has “weaponized” ICE and created a paramilitary force to test how far he can go. She also accused officials of not being held accountable for people being killed in the streets.
Nixon further pointed to Trump’s plans for a ballroom at the White House, claiming that the project is being “fortified” as part of his broader effort to prepare for what comes next.
Angie Nixon invokes 2021 Capitol attack to back her claim
“Are you making the argument, Ms Nixon, that you don’t think he’s gonna leave on January 20, 2029?” MacFarlane interjected.
“He didn’t wanna leave in 2021!” Nixon exclaimed.
Nixon said she remains concerned about what Trump could do in 2028, pointing to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and his continued claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
“We saw what happened, and so I honestly am concerned about what he’s going to do,” Nixon said. She added that Trump had recently argued that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
Angie Nixon claimed Trump is now “putting things in place to make it so that he won’t leave.”
“He won’t leave willingly. I know that for a fact, and so people need to be on high alert as it relates to that,” she said.
The Democratic leader also pointed to Trump’s plans to send the National Guard to different cities, saying he is “testing how far he can go.”
Angie Nixon distances herself from full DSA platform
While Nixon joined the Democratic Socialists of America in June, she made it clear that she does not agree with its entire platform.
While she shares some of the group’s positions- including abolishing ICE and creating pathways to citizenship- she has publicly broken with the DSA on several issues.
“I don’t fully align with anybody’s full platform 100%, not even the Democratic Party,” Nixon told WLRN last month.
