WASHINGTON, DC: Democrats have offered to protect House Speaker Mike Johnson against an attempt to remove him by a member of his party, and he is anticipated to present a bill delivering further help to Ukraine for a floor vote when Congress reconvenes after its spring break next month, as per the New York Post.

Although Johnson had delayed the measure's House vote until after other legislation to finance the government until September 30 was enacted on Friday, March 22, the Senate had passed a $95 billion bill in February to support Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Notably, the last installment of federal funds for the fiscal year 2024 was met with more opposition than support from Republicans, and in protest, far-right Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) submitted a move to resign from Johnson's speakership.

However, the House speaker will move on with a separate bill to offer military support to Ukraine once the house reconvenes on April 9 despite the danger to Johnson's authority.

Greene stated on Friday, March 22, that although she did not have a 'timeline' for a final vote, she had the backing of fellow House Republicans to file the petition to vacate.

She informed FOX News on Sunday, March 24, "I filed this motion to vacate but I haven’t called it. This may take weeks, it may take months, it may not even happen until next Congress. But Speaker Johnson cannot remain as Speaker of the House."

Notably, Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated on CBS's 'Face the Nation' on Sunday that although Johnson is 'in a very difficult spot', he is 'committed to putting it on the floor after Easter.'

On Friday, Representative Tom Suozzi promised to vote to table Greene's motion should it come up. On Monday, March 25, sources informed the New York Post that additional Democrats will support the speaker; but, the nature of their backing will depend on the bill Johnson brings up for a vote on Ukraine.

Furthermore, Rep Abigail Spanberger informed CNN, "If he does the responsible thing, which is allowing members of Congress to vote on a bill that will pass and that is in our national security interests, and subsequent to that a non-serious actor that doesn’t want to govern brings a motion to vacate, yes I would motion to table in that circumstance."

Internet takes a jibe at Mike Johnson on preparing separate Ukraine aid bill

Several internet users slammed Mike Johnson as he is anticipated to present a bill delivering further help to Ukraine for a floor vote when Congress reconvenes after its spring break next month.

A user wrote on X, "All of these recent House Speakers are having a hard time overcoming pandering from across the aisle. Time to oust Johnson," while one wrote, "@MikeJohnson no more money to Ukraine! For goodness sakes!!"

A user further stated, "He is a disgrace!" while one mentioned, "Send ZERO more dollars to Ukraine… Send it all at once also! Time to put America First!"

A person also wrote, "If Speaker Johnson knows something like secret intel that we are not privy to then he needs to come up with an acceptable reason for his betrayal of constituents and let us know. Otherwise VACATE THE SEAT."

A person also stated, "How much longer before he realizes that he’s been duped? The only way forward is not to bring this bill to vote!"
